The successful candidate will be responsible for the University's legal strategy, advising on a wide array of legal matters, and ensuring legal compliance across all areas of the organization. This role involves serving as a key strategic advisor to the President, Board of Trustees, and senior leadership, particularly in the areas of academic freedom, free speech, athletics, corporate governance, and various regulatory and compliance issues. The General Counsel will also lead a team of attorneys, manage outside counsel, and be a central figure in the University's mission, core values, and strategic plan. Applicants must have a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school, be licensed to practice law, and have a minimum of 15 years' relevant legal experience. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in handling complex legal matters, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships of trust. Experience in higher education, particularly with a Division I athletics program, is preferred. The role requires a leader with exceptional problem-solving skills, the ability to make complex decisions, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.
