Job Description: Conduct all species point count surveys in forests and early successional habitats across private lands in western Virginia. Golden-winged Warblers are a focal species, but all bird species will be recorded during surveys. Technicians will conduct point count surveys and vegetation sampling in steep terrain and remote conditions, and will also have the opportunity to assist with occasional target mist netting and additional bird/habitat projects in the region. Housing and transportation to and from field sites is provided. Required Qualifications: * Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. * Comfortable working outdoors for up to 8 hours at a time * Experience identifying eastern birds by sight and sound * Ability to work independently and as a team * Ability to navigate off trail in rugged terrain * Meticulous data collection skills and attention to detail * Comfortable driving 4WD vehicle * Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Preferred Qualifications: * Flexible, reliable, and hardworking work ethic * Ability to ID trees and shrubs in the region Salary Range: $13.50-$14.50 Position Details: Department: VCU Life Sciences Employment Type: H1 - Hourly Restricted Status: No FTE: .50 Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Contact Information: Contact Name: HR Shared Services, Office of the Provost Contact Email: Contact Phone:
