Who We Are Sitting on a quiet tree-lined street in Soho, twelve floors rise above the neighborhood's storied lofts, boutiques, and galleries. The name derives from the particular manner of hospitality, one that feels more like staying at the home of a dear friend than at a hotel "” discreet, refined, generous. Our hotel has 90 rooms and suites with four distinct FandB concepts led by an acclaimed chef. The street-side seafood restaurant and second floor cocktail bar will be venues that are open to the public. The Apartment and The Rooftop are spaces reserved exclusively for guests and friends of guests. While our hotel falls under the Standard International umbrella, it will be positioned as a wholly distinct and separate concept from The Standard with a different market positioning, design aesthetic, and service culture. Job Purpose: The Bartender is passionate about service, have a good basic understanding of food and drink, and the eagerness to serve and make a difference in our guest's experience. A sound working knowledge of the products and services within your department, will give you the confidence and ability to make suggestions and recommendations to complement our guests' choices, enhancing their overall experience and to deliver a consistently invisible, high quality and personalized service. Duties and Responsibilities: Bar Preparation : Set up and stock the bar counter, fridges, back bar, and speed rails before service, ensuring ample glassware, napkins, garnishes, purees, mixers, and other service items are readily available. Product Knowledge : Develop a comprehensive understanding of all food, beverage, and cocktail menus to provide recommendations and upsell items that match guest preferences. Allergy and Dietary Awareness : Always ask guests about any allergies or dietary restrictions to ensure their needs are met. Cocktail Skills : Master cocktail-making techniques and recipes as outlined in the cocktail training and recipe manual to maintain consistent quality. Efficient Service : Prepare cocktails quickly and efficiently, keeping service flowing smoothly. Guest Engagement : Greet guests within one minute of their arrival at the bar, promoting a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Product Promotion : Actively promote cocktails, making recommendations based on guests' spirit and style preferences. Guest Interaction : Be friendly, enthusiastic, and attentive to both guests and colleagues. Maintain a smile, make eye contact, use a friendly tone, and address guests by name. Situational Awareness : Maintain awareness of your section, anticipating guests' needs, clearing glassware and plates, and offering additional beverages. During peak times, visually acknowledge waiting guests to ensure they feel attended to. Guest Preferences : Remember guests' preferences, special needs, and dietary restrictions to deliver a personalized, high-luxury experience. Complaint Handling : Address guest complaints or feedback in a service-oriented manner, keeping management informed of any issues. Cleanliness and Maintenance : Keep all bar areas, equipment, and supplies clean, organized, and in top condition throughout service. ID Verification : Check IDs for guests who appear under 30 years old. Responsible Service : Avoid serving guests who appear intoxicated and notify the MOD when necessary. Food and Drink Hygiene : Ensure all food and drink preparation follows hygiene standards, with particular attention to temperature controls and cleanliness. Properly label and store items. Positive Attitude : Maintain a positive and joyful attitude at all times, even under pressure. Additional Duties : Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager. Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills: At least 3+ years of experience in a high volume, upscale NYC restaurant or hotel food and beverage operation. A very strong eye for detail. Flexible hours are required, including holidays, weekends and supervisory coverage when needed. Understanding of the English language, speak, read and write. Physical Requirements: Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 lb. without assistance. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
