Base pay range $130,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr Additional compensation types Annual Bonus Purpose of the Role The Director of Engineering under the guidance of the General Manager is responsible for all administrative, financial, and operating aspects of the hotel and entire facility as they directly relate to the Engineering (POMEC) department. This includes, but is not limited to, the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical equipment. Develop, coordinate, and monitor a rooms maintenance program to ensure the safety and comfort of all employees and guests. Responsible for scheduling, interviewing, hiring, training, and discipline of all department employees. Supervise, train, coach, and manage all department employees. They are responsible for the profitable operation of the hotel and facility. Responsibilities Responsible for maintaining the entire hotel, meeting spaces, restaurant, and café facility's physical structure, all plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC system, and all equipment relating to energy management. Managing Capex workbook in tandem with Director of Finance and GM. Keeping up to date and remaining compliant with all inspections including FDNY, Fire and Life Safety, and Department of Buildings. Develop, implement, and sustain a program to maintain all property, equipment, ground, and other assets in an acceptable state of repair ready for guest service. This program must include the training of the Engineering staff on the management of such a program. This program must also include preventative maintenance of all hotel equipment, public areas, grounds, and guest rooms. Coordinate the maintenance, repair, and installation of all assigned work through staff, vendors, contracted work, and provide status updates to the General Manager. Oversee necessary repairs and maintenance throughout the hotel and its grounds. Coordinate the maintenance repair and installation of carpentry work, and those duties related to carpentry. Spearhead all internal projects pertaining to engineering. Ensure renovation projects go smoothly by supervising and assisting construction teams on the project. Ensure room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner including logging and follow up while resolving any guest complaints and ensuring guest satisfaction. Maintain effective energy management. Conduct walk-throughs and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure(s) of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and any other related equipment. Ensure the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of all heating systems, refrigeration systems, air compressors, gas distribution lines, water distribution systems, motors, electrical work, and maintain inventory of all parts, supplies, and equipment. Submit requisition for needed supplies or contracted services for approval. Purchase all parts, supplies, tools, and equipment related to Engineering, through direct contact with sales representatives. Assist with creating and maintaining department budget. Administer all vendor contracts controlled by the Engineering department; ensure all contracts are current. Hire, train, supervise, conduct employee performance reviews, and discipline department staff and all other staff under the direction of the Engineering Department. Monitor staff performance in all phases of job functions ensuring that all procedures are carried out to departmental standards; rectify any deficiencies with training/discipline as needed. Prepare and adjust work schedules in accordance with staffing guidelines and processes payroll accordingly. Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas. Enforce safety regulations prescribed by the Company and OSHA. Ensure compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Implement and maintain the property's fire safety program. Rectify any building, code, or fire violations. Be the liaison between contractors, city departments, and the building. Qualifications Understanding: Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions according to established procedures. Comprehension: Fluent in the English language. Organizational Skills: Work efficiently, utilize multi-tasking, prioritize tasks. Hygiene and Sanitation: Adherence to uniform, grooming, and personal hygiene standards and expectations per Standard of Operating Procedures. Punctuality: Adherence to posted schedule and arrival time and attendance at mandatory meetings. Responsibility: Personal comportment in line with Standard, New York policies, standards, and expectations. Able to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time. Must work with sharp objects in a safe manner. Able to be exposed to hot and cold temperature extremes. Ability to endure under variable temperature conditions, noise levels, outdoor weather, and atmospheric conditions (being around fumes, odor hazards, dust, mite hazards, chemicals, etc). Ability to work in cramped or tight spaces. Requires manual ability to use, carry, and operate all necessary equipment. Minimum one (1) year experience as a commercial electrician. Working knowledge of all electrical supplies and equipment. Knowledge of proper chemical handling and disposal. Working knowledge of national and local health, electrical, fire, and mechanical codes. Ability to provide legible communication and directions. Ability to compute mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers). Ability to interpret manufacturer's literature for installation, preparation, use, and upkeep of various materials and products used throughout the property. Ability to be well organized and follow instructions. Ability to focus attention on details. Ability to prioritize tasks and comply with deadlines for work assignments. Ability to be a clear thinker and perform well under pressure work assignments. Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team. High school graduate or equivalent vocational training. Certification or completion of seminars for specialized training. Ability to perform basic carpentry skills. Previous work experience in a similar area. Physical Requirements Able to traverse spaces throughout the building as necessary. Able to move and traverse workspace for a minimum period of 8 hours a day. Periodical bending, kneeling, and stretching. Able to pull, push, carry, and lift at least 75 pounds. Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
