Weekend and holiday shifts are required.Shift: Various days/Various shifts - Flexibility is a MUST. Weekends and Holidays requiredLocation: Long Island State Veterans HomeStatus: ExemptSalary: 64,300 Required Qualifications: Associate degree in Culinary/Nutrition or Healthcare Management, or equivalent of education and experienceFood Manager Certificate (current or obtained within 6 months of hire)Must have completed the 120-hour Dietary Managers course 3 -5 years of leadership experience in a either long term or acute care facility as supervisor or manager. Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as appropriate Must have the ability to work harmoniously with a variety of people. Ability to read, write, and speak in English and follow written and verbal instructionsKnowledge of federal, state, and local codes and regulations pertaining to food servicePreferred Qualifications: BS in Culinary, Nutrition or Food Management Experience supervising Union employeesResponsibilities/Essential Functions: Position Responsibilities: Supervises, evaluates, and disciplines employees. Oversees cooks to insure adherence to recipes and production sheets. Supervising production and food preparation lists. Assign tasks and duties to kitchen staff based on facility needs and daily schedules. Ensures all tasks are completed in compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrates a working knowledge of and ensures compliance with all New York State sanitary rules and regulations. Finds coverage for hourly staff as needed. Ability to adapt recipes to accommodate for allergies and therapeutic restrictions. Opens and closes the department according to proper proceduresConduct meetings with those employees under his/her direct supervision in order to maintain high standards.Enforce proper food portioning at all times.Coordinate daily meal preparation adhering to quality standards and establish time frames.Meets with a.m. and p.m. supervisors to discuss and resolve any issues and changeReview supervisor logs daily for staffing concerns, equipment/production problems and work assignment sheetsMaintain department areas in a clean, neat, safe, and sanitary mannerEnforce departmental sanitation policy and procedures. Ensure sanitation standards, safety and infection control procedures as required by the various regulatory agencies.Check and document sanitation and cleanliness of all work areas including pantries in accordance with government standards.Enforce timeliness of patient tray services according to departmental policyIdentify and make recommendations to improve patient meal service operation.Ensure proper food handling procedures are being followed as outlined in HAACPNotify appropriate departments of malfunctioning equipment immediately upon observance.Complete required departmental reports and records within established time frame, including various quality control reports. Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures. Completes in-service education to hourly staff as assigned.
