The Opportunity Location : Trenton, NS Closing Date: February 23, 2025 Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power - Power Production - Trenton Generating Station Type of Employment : Regular, Full Time - On-site We are currently looking for a Senior Engineer - Capital and Environment to join our team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will lead our environmental management system (EMS) program and oversee capital projects at the Trenton Generating Station. This role involves ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, supporting plant operations, and driving continuous improvement in environmental performance. Key elements of this role include: As a Senior Engineer - Capital and Environment you will be responsible for the following: Environmental Management: Lead the plant's EMS program, ensuring compliance with regulatory approvals. This includes but is not limited to: Supporting plant personnel with procedures and documentation Preparing and presenting quarterly updates on plant EMS conditions Participating in corporate EMS meetings with plant representatives Coordination of mock environmental incidents Assisting with various preventative maintenance and monitoring programs including asbestos management, vegetation management, tank & piping assessments Completing annual reports required as per the Operating Approval Oversee environmental monitoring, reporting, and compliance programs of the plant. This position will liaise with our Environmental Services Team in Halifax and other departments and external regulatory agencies. Support plant personnel with procedures and documentation. Supporting the environmental aspects of operations, construction, and maintenance activities You will be project lead on various environmental capital projects Capital Projects: Develop and execute the plant's Capital Programs. Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to outline project descriptions, and budgets. Plan resources, materials, construction, quality, budgeting, forecasting, regulatory requirements, and project close-out. Implement project management processes to ensure successful completion. Utilize Asset Management best practices for thermal generation system investments. Develop tracking procedures for capital projects and conduct field reviews. Maintain efficient deployment of the capital program. Support and Improvement: Provide engineering assistance for safety improvements, process enhancements, equipment modifications, and cost reduction initiatives. Assist with site supervision and auditing of contractor services. Assisting with project supervision and site auditing of contractor services. These skills will make you successful: You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below: Education and Experience: Completion of a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Environmental, Chemical, Geological, or Civil Engineering. Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in environmental management and project management. Professional Engineer designation and membership or eligibility for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia is considered an asset. Skills and Qualifications: Experience with environmental legislation at provincial and federal levels. Familiarity with ISO 14001 environmental management systems. Proficiency in database management, air quality management, and water quality management. Strong organizational skills with the ability to report clearly on outcomes. Excellent oral and written communication skills. High level of professionalism, strong work ethic, and demonstrated analytical skills. Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License. Personal Attributes: Enthusiastic team player who can collaborate effectively with diverse teams. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
