Provides support to all aspects of golf course maintenance operations. Performs all routine golf course maintenance duties as well as trouble-shoots, details, and critically reviews golf course presentation. This includes but is not limited to course maintenance, facility construction, landscape construction, janitorial support, equipment operation, and special event support. Will require some evenings and weekends. Provides training, support and direction to seasonal staff as assigned. Specific assignment or duties may vary based on department needs. JOB SUMMARY Coordinates and manages the preparation, installation, and maintenance of landscaped areas on the golf course, clubhouse and Splash water park. Designs flower beds with annual and perennial plant materials. Prunes shrubs, dead-heads flowers, cuts back perennial plants and ornamental grasses in accordance with maintenance schedules. Estimates, orders, installs, and maintains appropriate levels of mulch material (wood and rock) for plants. Researches and recommends plants, shrubs, grasses, and flowers appropriate for climate, golf, urban environments, and aesthetic appearance. Assists with annual budget recommendations and oversight for materials, services, and equipment required to maintain the horticulture program. Works with golf maintenance staff to ensure proper watering, fertilization, and maintenance of plantings. Utilizes software programs and technology for landscape design, plant selection, etc. Uses the internet to research and order materials for use in landscaping areas. Operates maintenance equipment to maintain golf course landscaping, equipment includes walking/riding mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerifiers, and various hand tools and implements. Applies fertilizers and chemicals safely, and documents accordingly. Plants and maintains trees, shrubs, perennial beds, flower beds, and native plants. Landscape Construction - soil preparation, fine grading, sod/seed installation, shrubs, perennial and flower bed installation. Responsible for repair and maintenance of restrooms, shelters, fences, and concrete work. Responsible for snow removal. Responsible for trash collection and removal on course, cart paths, drainage systems, and open space. Uses handheld radio respectfully and professionally. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not formally supervise staff but is expected to serve as a team lead and provides general guidance, oversight, and training to seasonal staff. May be asked to serve as lead in absence of a supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED. Must possess excellent interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills. Minimum 1 year of professional horticulture experience, 3 years preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid driver's license and good driving record. Preferred Landscape Technician Certification with the Ornamental Maintenance Component or ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment. Colorado Department of Agriculture Qualified Supervisor License or ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to new employees to ensure appropriate training and communication of processes and procedures. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, & decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrated knowledge of landscape maintenance techniques and procedures including planting, irrigation, and disease control, maintenance, construction, and repair work. Proficient use of general grounds maintenance tools and equipment. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED Janitorial equipment and chemicals, mechanical hand tools, agricultural hand tools, push lawn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, chain saws, riding mowers, landscape tractors, three-point attachments, electrical power tools, pick-up truck, loader, backhoe, high reach machine, snowplow, walking mowers, sprayers, air, concrete saws, compact tractors, sweepers, and snowplows. Turf mowers, string trimmers, edger's, blowers, chemical sprayers, chain saw, and. General office equipment including computers, smart pads, smart phones, etc. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to dig; rake; hammer; saw; drill; shovel; push; pull; stand; walk; use hands to hold, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, dry, wet and/or humid conditions. Working conditions is primarily outside in golf course and native foothills setting.
