Maintenance Mechanic (Building) - S465 - The Croton-Harmon School District has an anticipated opening for aMaintenance Mechanic who has commercial building maintenance experience.Please see attached Civil Service Job Description:GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs skilled maintenance and repair work; does related work asrequired.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under supervision, performs a wide variety of work in the repair,maintenance and servicing of school district buildings and facilities. This may involve acting as the skilled memberof a small unspecialized work crew or as a skilled one-man maintenance force. Work assignments are initiated bywritten work orders or oral instructions from Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds or MaintenanceForeman.EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)Replaces and/or re-builds new stairways, re-roofs buildings or re-builds existing roofs, replaces and repairsporch steps, railings, floors, etc.;Does miscellaneous carpentry repair work, such as replacing door checks, resetting doors, buildingsimple supporting structures, building simple cabinets, etc.;Performs routine electrical and plumbing maintenance, repair and installation work, such as repairingand/or replacing electrical or plumbing fixtures, installing simple electrical circuits, installing small homeheating systems, etc.;Builds and repairs staging and decorative wooden structures for public exhibit or display; Repairsand/or replaces both wooden upholstered portions of public seating units; Replaces broken glass andrepairs windows;Cleans stopped-up drains and does other emergency plumbing repair work: Installs andrepairs leaders, gutters and flashings;Prepares furn aces for winter use by cleaning and repairing, or by replacing the heating system in part or inwhole;Repairs and maintains hot water, steam and hot air lines;Repairs and builds simple masonry structures, facilities and appurtenances.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS. ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Good knowledge of thetools, techniques and terminology of two or more of the building and mechanical trades, one of which mustbe carpentry; good knowledge of the accident and safety precautions which generally apply to the buildingand mechanical trades; ability to work from sketches and blueprints; ability to follow written and oralinstructions; ability to get along well with others; resourcefulness in work performance; initiative incompleting assigned work; physical strength and agility; physical condition commensurate with the dutiesof the position.MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Either: (a) graduation from high school or trade schoolor possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of experience in building and mechanicalmaintenance work; or (b) eight years of experience as a handyman in building and mechanical maintenancework; or (c) a satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS:In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education {SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Lawsof 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in schooldistricts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employmentbased upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.School DistrictsJ.
