Assistant Supervisors are responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the program. Assist with the planning and implementation of the summer calendar, including weekly theme orientated schedules, daily theme-oriented arts-n-crafts, children's games - active and passive, special events, field trips and the overall promotion of the programs as guided by Tyke Site Supervisor & Recreation Supervisor. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesEXAMPLES OF DUTIES:• Provides constant supervision and leadership for the program participants.• Assists the staff members in carrying out the daily schedule of activities.• Instructs and leads the participants in the following activities: arts-n-crafts, storytelling, cooperative games (active & passive), and free time.• Directs the orientation and training of the Tyke Site Leaders.• Serves as chaperone for all youth field trips and special events.• Works with the Recreation Department office to keep the parents and children informed of any schedule changes.• Performs daily safety inspections of playground facilities and equipment, reporting any problem areas to Tyke Site Supervisor.• Records daily attendance to ensure all participants are pre-registered for the program. Instructs parents to call the Recreation Department to register their child(ren) before allowing them to attend Tyke Site.• Handles the questions and complaints of parents in the best and most tactful manner possible.• Refer any issues of higher demand to the Tyke Site Supervisor immediately.• Always wears a Recreation Department Staff Shirt, identification badge and tennis shoes while working.• Meets with Recreation Supervisor for performance evaluation of themselves and the site.• Performs related duties as directed.SPECIFIC DUTIES:• Attends all staff meetings and relays important information to staff members.• Assists with all paperwork, seeing that it is done completely, correctly and in an efficient manner.• Assists in creating the daily schedule of activities and assures that staff follows.• Correctly handles monies from various venues.• Upholds an upbeat, fast-paced, positive environment with little down time.• Reports any information to Tyke Site Supervisor and Recreation Supervisor. Typical Qualifications• Considerable knowledge and experience in supervision of pre-school children.• Considerable experience leading arts-n-crafts, active games, and cooperative games.• Considerable experience in teaching children in an educational or recreational setting.• Ability to supervise and delegate to staff members in a positive and appropriate manner.• Excellent communication and organizational skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and experience in supervision of pre-school children in an educational or recreational setting. Skills in communication and public relations, and ability to effectively plan, organize, and implement recreational activities (i.e., arts-n-crafts, active games etc.). Must hold current First Aid and CPR certificationsThis position is not eligible for benefits.
