MEP Resident Engineer - Data Center Colo - Totowa NJ / Hybrid This opportunity is working directly with a leading mission-critical data center developer / wholesaler / colo provider. We are seeking a Data Center MEP Engineer with a strong design focus to support the development of mechanical and electrical systems for new and existing data center facilities. This role is ideal for a smart, sharp, and driven engineer with a strong grasp of concept-level design, building schematics, and construction drawings. The ideal candidate will be proficient in AutoCAD and Revit, with experience in mechanical and electrical system design for mission-critical environments. Knowledge of heating and cooling load calculations, ductwork and piping sizing, selecting HVAC equipment, energy modeling and other engineering calculations and Electrical Power Distribution System design and installation. Previous experience with electrical equipment design to include Generators, UPS systems and electrical switchgear is a must. Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple teams, ensuring consistency in architectural principles and following best practices. Responsibilities: Create designs and plans; execute assignments in multidisciplinary electrical / mechanical / MEP Engineering systems for data center facility design projects. Create Conceptual Designs gathered from meetings. Utilize AutoCAD and Revit to produce high-quality designs and documentation. Create RFPs and RFIs for project specifications. Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policies; Put these in clear concise work statement for the field. Develop guidelines and standards for operational processes. Provide input to the development of design standards. Review design and construction drawings and specifications, building schematics; participate in equipment selection and provide input to the design team where needed. Provide "˜peer review' as needed. Represent the Operations team in startup, testing, factory witness testing, commissioning, and turnover. Support the commissioning manager as needed. Work with the construction team to ensure design intent is met during implementation. Be the single point of contact for the Operations Team for building turnover. Ensure that the design and construction are done with operability and maintainability in mind. Provide technical input on HVAC, cooling, power distribution, and electrical infrastructure to ensure system efficiency and reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs align with industry best practices. Occasionally travel to project sites to verify designs, conduct field observations, and support construction teams. Participate in After-Action Reviews and ensure that the lessons learned are incorporated into the policies. Qualifications: 3-7+ years experience in MEP engineering, design, or construction for mission-critical / data center projects. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or similar engineering degree. Licensed PE / EIT a Plus. Previously have worked at an Engineering Consulting firm a MUST. Experience with hyperscale / colo / enterprise data center design / mission critical facilities design projects a must. Previous experience using: Revit MEP projects, AutoCAD MEP, BIM a plus. Experience with Electrical Systems such as UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), Generators, Switchgears, and Batteries a MUST. Experience with Mechanical Systems (HVAC , CFD (Fluid Dynamics), Boilers , Chillers , Pumps , CRAC / CRAH Units , Air Handling Units , etc.). Experience with concept-level design, reviewing drawings, and building schematics. Experience developing design/commissioning/operational standards and guidelines. Experience performing root-cause analysis on complex failure scenarios. Experience developing operating procedures and emergency procedures / SOPs / MOPs / EOPs. Experience performing field observations during construction. Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Self Starter, self motivated, Strong problem-solving skills and should prioritize well and have the ability to successfully work independently and within a team.
