Family Office Tax Director Single Family Office is seeking an elite tax professional with deep expertise in tax planning, compliance, and strategy to oversee and manage the tax affairs of a high-net-worth tech founder and their family office. The ideal candidate will have experience in navigating complex, multi-jurisdictional tax environments and advising on personal and business tax implications for ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs). As a key pillar of the family office, this role will involve working closely with other departments (legal, investment) to deliver comprehensive tax solutions that preserve and enhance wealth. Responsibilities: Tax Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive global tax strategies that are aligned with personal and business objectives and optimize wealth preservation, asset protection, and income management for the family's complex financial interests. Able to research and prepare tax memos and tax models for planning strategies with a holistic global view for various investments, equity and token compensation, and other income/items. Proactively identify tax-saving opportunities within both domestic and international tax frameworks, including compliance with relevant regulations across multiple jurisdictions. Identify and manage potential risks with recommended solutions and alternatives. Advise on corporate and personal tax structures, trust and estate planning, and multi-generational wealth transfer. Tax Compliance and Administration: Oversee all global tax compliance activities, including federal, state, and international/foreign local filings. Ensure diligent review for accuracy and timely filing of all tax returns, estimates, and extensions. Able to manage and review all complex and key tax positions with sufficient documentation. Coordinate with and manage external advisors with efficient process and associated fees. Stay abreast of changes in tax law and ensure compliance with evolving tax regulations in various jurisdictions. Experienced in setup and administration of a family office, including legal structures, accounting/reporting, and financial management systems required for efficient and effective administration. Family Office Collaboration: Work closely with the tech founder's business interests to align personal and corporate tax strategies. Partner with the family office's investment and legal planning teams to provide tax input on investment opportunities, private equity transactions, real estate holdings, and other ventures. Liaise with FO finance team to collect and analyze financial information for tax planning and tax compliance. Qualifications: Advanced degree in Taxation (LL.M. or equivalent), JD, or CPA. Proven track record as the principal tax owner in a UHNW family office operation demonstrating complex global tax planning and compliance. 10+ years of experience in a high-level tax advisory role, preferably within a Big Four accounting firm, law firm, or family office specializing in UHNW clients. Expertise in complex tax strategies, including international tax planning, estate and trust tax, and philanthropic structuring. Strong technical knowledge of US federal, state, and international tax. Puerto Rico tax experience a plus. Strategic thinker with excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills. Proven ability to work directly with ultra-high-net-worth individuals and senior executives. Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial portfolios with discretion and integrity. Excellent communicator, showing great comfort and fluency in explaining complex tax matters to laypersons and avoiding needless distractions. Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to proactively collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. Hands-on tax professional, able to run tax analysis and calculations without having to ask advisors' help in every instance.
