Role Summary: As the Head of Machining, you will be at the forefront of manufacturing hardware crucial for our US defense initiatives. This role requires precision, dedication, and a deep understanding of machining to produce high-quality flight hardware. Responsibilities: Take primary responsibility for machine setup, calibration, and development, serving as the point of contact for machine-related technical support and setup requirements. Operate CNC machines (lathe, mill, mill-turn, etc.) to produce parts based on drawings, blueprints, models, and verbal instructions. Edit and optimize programs, including working with legacy programs, to ensure precise production. Perform high-precision machining with an emphasis on simultaneous 5-axis machining and advanced techniques for both CNC and manual machines. Maintain stringent quality control standards throughout the manufacturing process. Deburr parts to ensure the final hardware meets all required specifications. Oversee inventory counts of tooling and consumables, ensuring stock levels support operational demands. Maintain organized workspaces with necessary tools and materials to ensure smooth daily operations. Conduct routine preventive maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance. Serve as a Liaison with engineering teams to ensure technical requirements are met and provide support for ongoing design and process improvements. Demonstrate the ability to handle high-volume production environments, including lights-out machining for efficiency. Prioritize tasks and maintain operational uptime to meet tight deadlines and shifting goals. Manage a small team, ensuring smooth daily operations and coordinating with other departments when necessary. Willingness to work weekends and adjust to dynamic project timelines as needed. Qualifications: Minimum of 15 years of experience working with a variety of machines, including CNC lathe, CNC mill, manual mill/lathe, and mill-turn machines. Experience with dual spindle, Y-axis lathes is a plus. Strong working knowledge of Siemens NX CAM, FusionCAM, or MasterCAM. Familiarity with Fanuc, Brother, and Haas controls is required. Proficiency in 5-axis machining and experience with composites. Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Experience working with AS9100 D / ISO9001 quality assurance practices. Experience in designing and creating fixturing and tooling solutions to ensure high-quality machining. Proven ability to independently manage setup and machining processes from start to finish. Familiarity with UpKeep or similar maintenance management software is a plus.
