Pay Schedule I, Grade 31, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per weekA vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Engineering & Construction, Highway Design and Special Projects.A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below. Under general supervision, performs professional engineering work adhering to applicable codes and guidelines. Manages design and construction of capital improvement projects for the Section. Performs various work in the design of engineering projects including: drafting and reviewing plans, determining right-of-way requirements, writing special provisions, and preparing construction cost estimates and technical studies. Manages the design, review, and approval of capital improvement projects (including alleys). Reviews and coordinates the work of engineering consultants. Develops and monitors project schedules and deadlines. Operates computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work and computer aided drafting (using AutoCAD) and design of engineering drawings/plans. Develops or reviews hydrologic/hydraulic, SWM, and other engineering-related studies. Performs periodic field inspections of construction projects such as storm drains, sidewalk and roadways. Investigates and responds to engineering-related complaints and requests from the public. Recommends approval or disapproval of plans and specifications for highway widening, alley rehabilitation and individual sidewalk projects. Assists in the development of the County's annual capital budget. Examples of Other Duties Leads and assists less experienced and subordinate personnel. Performs other related duties as required. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering.PLUS Two years' field or office engineering experience.Additional qualifying education beyond a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.OR Possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training issued by a State within the United States of America, plus two years' field or office engineering experience. Licenses and Certificates Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.Proof of License(s), Certification(s) and Education Applicants are required to submit proof of license(s), certification(s) and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study.
