Description The main purpose of the Aquatics Program Director is to oversee all aspects of the swimming lessons including safety, staffing, and supervision. The other major portion this individual will be responsible for is the planning of lessons and training of the swimming specialists. The Aquatics Program Director will meet as needed with the Summer Camp Director to discuss progress and ongoing planning before the start of camp. Full-time work will run from the week camp begins in June through the week camp ends to bring closure to the summer. The Aquatics Programs Director reports to the Camp Director. Their presence will be necessary at both campuses, Hoboken and Jersey City, with a day-to-day schedule forthcoming. Primary roles include: Swim Specialist Supervisor Serves as the supervisor to 4-6 swimming specialists Meets with Specialists and provides feedback and input regarding their self-evaluations Acts as the substitute when a swimming specialist is absent Train, schedule, and supervise a team of 4-6 swimming specialists Coordinate and communicate with on-site staff of Newport Swim and Fitness Center, and Stevens Institute of Technology Aquatics Center including pre-summer meetings and tours of the spaces Program Planning Designs swimming lessons that are fun and accessible to all, keeping in mind the differing age groups. Disseminates these plans to all swimming specialists and discusses specifics Ensures continuity between both campuses Submits order form for any necessary materials Promote a positive and inclusive environment at the waterfront by fostering fun and skill development. Safety Tracks who is required to wear a floatation device and who is not; making edits to this as needed and informing swimming specialists Tracks signed waivers Implement and enforce all safety guidelines, emergency response plans, and risk management procedures for aquatic activities. Maintain all aquatics equipment, ensuring repairs, proper storage, and routine inspections. Communication Provides student skill feedback to parents when requested Discusses any behavior challenges with Site Directors and parents when appropriate Communicates with families regarding any swim-related emergencies or concerns that arise. Communicates with teachers and Site Directors about any floatation device waivers Bridges the gap between the pool staff and Stevens Other General Camp Responsibilities Attends and leads portions of Summer Camp Staff Orientation and Family Orientation Sets up buildings for camp with the Site and Program Directors, Camp Director, and Auxiliary Programs Director Promotes camp spirit - able to lead whole camp events like morning meetings and camp cheers Assists in the breakdown of camp with Program Directors, Summer Camp Director, and Auxiliary Programs Directors Other responsibilities assigned by the Summer Camp Director, as needed Requirements Candidate skills and dispositions: Affinity for progressive education and process, the mission and values of Stevens Cooperative School, and the respectful, collaborative, inclusive environment we strive to create. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, disposition, and/or ability required to perform essential functions of the job: Has experience and proficiency using Google Workspace and a willingness to learn the camp platform, UltraCamp Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail Experience with safety and crisis management Is committed to being a creative self-starter who brings wisdom, perspective, confidence, and excellent problem-solving skills to the position Demonstrates excellent command of a large group of people, children and adults alike, and a comfortability and confidence speaking in front of them. Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills; speaks professionally and thoughtfully to camp families at all times Demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively bringing a positive attitude and sense of humor even during stressful situations Ensures that program participants have a safe and positive camp experience Assists in managing crises and unanticipated events that affect the camp Maintains ongoing evaluation process of camp programs, staff, site, and facilities. Make recommendations for improvements. Assures that the camp philosophy and practices align with our mission and school year values Understands how to evaluate student swimming skill levels American Red Cross lifeguard certification, First Aid, CPR/AED certification The Aquatics Programs Director is a single summer position, with the option thereafter to renew on a year-by-year basis. The role and responsibilities are also likely to evolve. The individual who assumes this role should have prior experience in aquatics programming, coaching, or facility management as well as experience supervising and training staff. #J-18808-Ljbffr
