The Development Director at Emmanuel Gospel Center (EGC) is a senior leader responsible for shaping and driving the organization's resource development strategy, fostering connections, and ensuring sustainable growth. This role is critical to advancing EGC's mission of empowering the Church toward shalom in Greater Boston by building relationships, mobilizing resources, and cultivating support for its programs. As a key member of EGC's senior leadership team, the Development Director combines strategic vision with relational leadership, working closely with the Executive Director, Board, and Development Team to create and execute innovative fundraising strategies. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Development Director will report to the Executive Director. The duties include: Strategic Leadership Shape and implement a forward-thinking fundraising strategy that supports EGC's mission and long-term sustainability, incorporating major gifts, planned giving, sponsorships, and donor engagement. Partner closely with the Executive Director to strategically deploy their time and efforts in high-impact donor meetings and external partnerships. Collaborate with the Development Manager and supervise other Development Team roles, including grants-focused positions, ensuring all team members are aligned and equipped to achieve department goals. Establish clear metrics, systems, and processes to track progress and ensure accountability for all Development activities. Regularly evaluate and refine strategies to ensure alignment with nonprofit fundraising trends and best practices. Operational & Team Management Supervise the Development Manager, providing mentorship, support, and clear direction while fostering their professional growth. Supervise grants-focused staff or contractors, overseeing the quality and compliance of all grant writing and reporting. Step in to assist with writing or meeting deadlines during transitional periods or increased workloads. Leverage EGC's established CRM systems and tools for donor management and analysis, with the Development Manager overseeing data input and operational workflows. Oversee the successful execution of donor campaigns, appeals, and events, working collaboratively with the Development Team to ensure impactful outcomes. Streamline processes and equip the team with tools and resources to maintain operational efficiency. Donor Cultivation & Stewardship Build and maintain relationships with individual donors, churches, corporations, and foundations, while developing strategies to engage the broader EGC community in deepening these connections. Lead the organization in donor stewardship by crafting strategies that reflect EGC's values, ensuring supporters feel connected to the mission and impact. Collaborate with the Communications Team to align messaging across donor-facing materials, including newsletters, campaign collateral, and the annual report. Lead the planning and execution of key donor-focused events, including cultivation gatherings and EGC's annual fundraiser. Innovation & Diversification Launch and manage new initiatives to diversify funding streams, including corporate sponsorships and planned giving programs. Develop creative approaches to fundraising that resonate across cultural, denominational, and generational lines. Bring an entrepreneurial mindset to Development, seeking opportunities to expand EGC's reach and impact through innovative strategies. Leadership & Collaboration Partner with the Executive Director and senior leadership team to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals and priorities. Engage with the Board of Directors to provide strategic updates on fundraising progress and key initiatives through the Executive Director. Actively contribute to organizational planning, helping EGC navigate new opportunities and challenges with a focus on resource development and sustainability. General Responsibilities Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, participating in staff-associated activities such as weekly staff meetings, soul care retreats, and participating in as well as helping to lead staff prayer times. In addition, this position also supports and assists, as needed, with various events such as EGC's annual fundraiser, dinners, or other events. SKILLS, QUALITIES & EXPERIENCE At least 7 years of experience in nonprofit Development, including success in donor cultivation, major gifts, and grant management. Broad fundraising expertise, with knowledge of strategies for individual, corporate, and foundation support. Familiarity with engaging the Christian community or comparable faith-based networks. Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences. Proficiency with CRM platforms and donor management systems, and comfort using data to inform strategy. CRITICAL QUALITIES Mature Christian faith as defined by being an active member of a local church, by agreeing with the Apostles Creed, and by displaying the life of a Christian leader as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-10. Passion for EGC's mission and principles. A robust and growing spiritual life that exhibits resilience in Jesus, with the ability to exercise spiritual discernment, speak truth in love, lead with discretion, and maintain confidentiality in all duties. Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality, ability, and age sensitivity and adaptability. COMPENSATION We offer a salary range of $95,000-$115,000 annually for this full-time position, including medical and dental coverage, a 4% retirement contribution after one year, four weeks of vacation annually, and a sabbatical policy rewarding long-term commitment. This position offers hybrid work arrangements with required in-office meetings, requiring candidates to be local.
