Your new role As a Senior Manager of Portfolio Construction, Risk and Strategy for Private Equity (PE), you will be responsible for evolving and overseeing the PE portfolios including: Portfolio construction and investment risk. Portfolio management within strategy, cost and asset allocation guidelines. In addition, you will be a member of two key forums Chaired by the Head of Private Equity: Private Equity Investment Council, or PEIC (which reviews and advises on all investment decisions and portfolio monitoring in ownership for the PE portfolio). Private Equity Senior Team (which is responsible for overall management of the PE team). The Senior Manager, Portfolio Construction, Risk and Strategy, will utilize their private equity investment experience to collaborate with senior PE (and investment department) colleagues in delivering PE's investment objectives. This role will seek to contribute to strong investment returns via a strong portfolio construction framework, insightful portfolio risk management and overall portfolio management that supports the funds PE portfolio objectives. This role is based on-site at 1251 Avenues of the Americas, with a hybrid work schedule. Key responsibilities Portfolio construction and investment risk Ensuring all Private Equity portfolio investments (fund commitments, co-investments and co-underwrites) are combined and viewed from a total portfolio perspective. Maintaining, overseeing and evolving the portfolio construction frameworks that are used to construct the portfolios investment exposures including investment limits, sizing and key factor exposures. Critical and key input via portfolio construction insights and framework ownership to portfolio weighting / investment sizing discussions at PEIC forums. Deepen and extend the PE portfolios investment risk management frameworks and insights. Research leadership of portfolio level investment risks and insights that can be used by the PEIC to manage portfolio risk, on-going management of investments and new investment decisions. Engagement and stakeholder management of key departmental relationships, such as Total Portfolio Management and Investment Risk and Governance. Collaborate and work closely with the Senior Manager, Portfolio Governance and Oversight, Private Equity to ensure that the portfolio remains compliant with all stated guidelines and requirements. Portfolio management Maintenance of and responsibility for the PE Portfolio Model that provides all total portfolio forecasting (fund commitments, co-investment and co-underwrite budgets and capital returns). Oversee the PE portfolios capital pacing and deployment strategy, in collaboration with various internal teams and stakeholders. Responsibility for managing the portfolios Management Expense Ratio (MER) within strategy guidelines, Asset Allocation parameters and Finance budgets. Monitoring of the PE portfolio against its strategy, performance targets, portfolio construction guidelines and risk parameters. Strong stakeholder engagement, collaboration and relationship management across internal teams. What we're looking for At least 15 years professional experience in private equity and/or portfolio construction. Specific experience in investment risk management will be highly regarded. Deep understanding of investment principles and risk concepts with specific reference to private equity investments and portfolios. Understanding of private equity deployment modelling and capital pacing. Previous senior investment experience in portfolio construction and total portfolio level investment management. Curious and analytical investment mindset with a passion for delivering high quality investment returns. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others. Maturity, confidence and natural disposition to challenge and debate with senior members of the investment team. Ability to synthesize complex information into concise conclusions and communicate them. Strong presentation and report writing skills. Pay transparency notice The compensation range for this position is $550,000 to $650,000 plus discretionary bonus ( this is based on full-time hours, located in New York City). The compensation offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience and refers to the amount AustralianSuper is willing to pay at the time of posting.
