The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), a subordinate laboratory of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC), is an internationally recognized center of excellence for Warfighter performance science and its useful applications. The Institute functions as a world-class laboratory for environmental medicine, physiology, performance and nutrition research. It features integrated cellular, tissue, & human research programs. Fellowship will be in the Military Performance Division, whose goal is to conduct research to enhance the performance of military occupational tasks and to prevent performance decrements due to physical overload and musculoskeletal injuries. What will I be doing? As part of this learning experience, you will join a team of scientists in conducting research for the Military Performance Division. You will be involved in data collection and/or analysis for up to three research projects involving warfighter health and performance, to include body composition, musculoskeletal injury risk factors, and sleep. You will learn about various research procedures and how to operate research specific equipment such as a DXA and metabolic measurement system, as well as data processing and analysis. This appointment is a full-time summer research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant. What are the benefits? You will receive a stipend to be determined by USARIEM. Stipends are typically based on a participant's academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.
