The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), a subordinate laboratory of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC), is an internationally recognized center of excellence for Warfighter performance science and its useful applications. The Institute functions as a world-class laboratory for environmental medicine, physiology, performance and nutrition research. It features integrated cellular, tissue, & human research programs. Fellowship will be in the Military Performance Division, whose goal is to conduct research to enhance the performance of military occupational tasks and to prevent performance decrements due to physical overload and musculoskeletal injuries. What will I be doing? As part of this learning experience, you will join a team of scientists in conducting research for the Military Performance Division. You will be involved in data collection and/or analysis for up to three research projects involving warfighter health and performance, to include body composition, musculoskeletal injury risk factors, and sleep. You will learn about various research procedures and how to operate research specific equipment such as a DXA and metabolic measurement system, as well as data processing and analysis. Natick, Massachusetts What is the anticipated start date? USARIEM is ready to make an appointment effective as soon as possible . Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified. What is the appointment length? This appointment is a full-time summer research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant. What are the benefits? You will receive a stipend to be determined by USARIEM. Stipends are typically based on a participant's academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following: Health Insurance Supplement. Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE. Relocation Allowance. Training and Travel Allowance. Nature of Appointment As a participant, you will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. About ORISE This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD, or any other office or agency.
