Idaho Conservation Corps - AmeriCorps 480 HourIndividual PlacementU.S. Forest ServicePayette National Forest - Krassel Ranger DistrictPosition Title: Wilderness Trails Ranger AmeriCorps MemberGrant Program: OYSI 22EDBDC0020010Position Summary: Krassel Ranger District is recruiting two, 480 Hour AmeriCorps Members that will start June 3rd, 2025 and end August 21st, 2025; these dates are not flexible. AmeriCorps Members will serve as crew members on a backcountry trail crew and wilderness ranger crew, using primitive hand tools to conduct trail maintenance in a wilderness setting. The members will work as a crew on 10-day hitches while self-supported backpacking and camping, performing trail work and backcountry conservation work.Duties and Responsibilities: Specific activities include:Mentorship by a Wilderness Ranger, Exposure to Wilderness Management - 10%Learning from a mentor and gaining exposure to wilderness management practicesBackcountry Camping Crew - 30%Participating in crew life and field workThe hands-on experience of being out on the trails and camping is a significant part of the experience, contributing to outdoor skill development.Trail Maintenance with Natural Materials and Primitive Tools - 50%Trail maintenance is a core responsibility in wilderness managementCrosscut Saw and Axe Training/Certification - 10%Required Qualifications: Backpacking, outdoors and camping experience is required. Comfortable living and working in the wilderness for 12 weeks with no internet or cell service.Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)U.S. Citizen or lawful, permanent residentMust pass a background/driver checkMust have a high school diploma or GEDDesired Qualifications: Driver's LicensePersonal transportationPositive mental attitude Willingness to learn new thingsDuty Location: Interns are stationed at Chamberlain or Cold Meadows FS Guard Stations. Duties are carried out in a variety of locations within the Krassel Ranger District. Primitive (few or no amenities) cabin housing provided.Terms of Employment: One AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (480 hours), starting June 3rd to August 21st, 2025. The member must complete a minimum of 480 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.Program Benefits: $7,680 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis and a $1,956.35 education award upon completion of the 480 hours of service. The position will also include a $201.19 gear reimbursement fund.The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food.
