The County of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation's Department is accepting applications for enthusiastic and dependable Park Aides to join our team. As a Park Aide, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the park, assisting visitors, ensuring cleanliness, and maintaining park facilities. Typical Tasks and Representative Duties (Not in order of importance) * Accepts money from the public at an entry gate and issues receipts. * Reserves campsites, picnic areas or other facilities and charges appropriate fees. * Communicates with public in receiving and giving out a wide variety of information pertaining to recreational facilities. * Explains rules and regulations to users. * Sorts and counts cash. * Maintains appropriate records and reports as necessary. * Operates office machines such as adding machines, personal computers, calculators, cash registers, typewriters, duplicating machines and short-wave radio when required. * Patrols lakes and/or related land areas to provide assistance to the public in matters relating to their health, safety and welfare. * Enforces park rules and regulations to protect the public and the environment. * Performs a wide variety of maintenance tasks such as repairing benches, tables, plumbing, sprinkler and water systems, playground equipment. * Maintains lawns and landscaped areas. * Provides first aid when required. * Maintains records of park activities and prepares reports. * Cleans park areas, buildings, and related equipment. * Performs other light custodial maintenance as required. * Protects and manages natural resources. The ideal candidate will have experience in providing assistance to the public related to the operation and use of recreational and park facilities. Experience in cash handling as well as light maintenance work is preferred. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or a GED equivalent. Licenses and Certificates Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and Standard Red Cross First Aid certificate or its equivalent within six months from date of appointment. Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
