Min Hourly Rate $14.70 (Standard); $13.70 (Non-Urban); $15.95 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $17.00 (Standard); $16.50 (Non-Urban); $18.00 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Desk Consultant position for the Valley Library Borrowing & Information Desk Unit at Oregon State University (OSU). This position is open to qualified/eligible work study students only Position Duties The position is within the Valley Library, Library Experience & Access Department, Borrowing & Information Desk Unit. The position provides a wide range of support and services to students, staff, faculty, and the general public via face-to-face, virtual, and telephone interactions. Borrowing & Information Desk employees provide informational, borrowing, reference, research assistance, and courteous and friendly general customer service. They maintain patron confidentiality; communicate effectively and refer problems/questions to staff when necessary; explain and follow general library policies; process and maintain library collections and materials; clean and organize; use and instruct on a variety of library-specific software, webpages, and databases; assist with opening and/or closing the building; troubleshoot minor computer, scanner, and printer problems in the Learning Commons' computer lab; assist with other projects as assigned. After a year or more of employment, additional position duties could include: 1) Head desk student responsibilities, 2) processing electronic course reserves, and/or 3) supporting the 3D printing desk. Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: * Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study * Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment * Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard * High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program * Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term * Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* * Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term * Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* * International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications * Experience working with and supporting people from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and/or perspectives * Communicates effectively to instruct others and support a team of coworkers * Willing to work during dead and finals week * Willing to workdays, nights, and weekends This position is open to qualified/eligible work study students only Preferred (Special) Qualifications * Customer service experience * Comfortable exploring and troubleshooting new technologies * Bilingual Working Conditions / Work Schedule Student employees work daytime, evening, and weekend hours between 7am and midnight.
