WORK DAYS: 261 days (including paid holidays and paid vacation time). STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: 8 hours per day (not including a 30-minute unpaid mealtime). WORK YEAR: The work year for the Laundry and Building Custodial Specialist begins on the first weekday in July and ends 12 months later on the last weekday in June. SALARY SCHEDULE & BENEFITS: The Laundry and Building Custodial Specialist is paid on level 4 of the Custodian Salary Schedule and is eligible for benefits on the "Support Staff" benefits schedule. REPORTS TO: The Laundry and Building Custodial Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities for the building(s) where the Laundry and Building Custodial Specialist is assigned. SUPERVISES: The Laundry and Building Custodial Specialist does not supervise any other employee(s). GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under general supervision, the Laundry and Custodial Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the school district by managing laundry services and performing essential custodial duties. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, reliability, and attention to detail. The individual will be responsible for laundering and maintaining uniforms and other items while also completing custodial tasks to support the cleanliness and functionality of school facilities. This position requires physical stamina, the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization. Performs related work as directed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Laundry Operations Perform laundry tasks, including washing, drying, ironing, folding, and repairing various uniforms and items. Ensure timely cleaning and preparation for delivery of items, such as athletic uniforms, mechanics' uniforms, flags, ceremonial tablecloths, custodial towels and mop heads, and kitchen towels. Use knowledge of laundry chemicals and laundering processes to clean materials safely and effectively. Maintain a well-organized inventory of laundry chemicals, supplies, and clean towels for kitchens. Sewing and Repairs Repair uniforms and other items provided from buildings using hand stitching or sewing machines, ensuring they are functional and presentable. Custodial Responsibilities Empty trash, clean restrooms, and set up rooms for events in the LGI (Large Group Instruction) area. Perform daily sanitizing and cleaning tasks, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and maintaining facility cleanliness. Safely operate and maintain cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, buffers, and shampoo machines. Handle emergencies such as spills, broken windows, or other hazardous conditions. Perform non-cleaning tasks such as changing light bulbs, stocking paper, replacing ceiling tiles and soap dispensers, and moving furniture for events. Maintenance and Reporting Maintain and clean custodial/laundry equipment and storage areas. Report maintenance needs or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor. Organizational Skills Ensure all items are marked for delivery to their appropriate locations on time, including uniforms for events and towels for kitchens. Manage stock levels by ordering necessary chemicals and detergents in advance. Attendance and Reliability Demonstrate excellent attendance to ensure critical laundry and custodial tasks are completed without interruption. Other Duties as Assigned Assist with additional tasks as directed by the supervisor to meet the needs of the district. Secure facilities by locking doors and windows and ensuring all electrical equipment is turned off at the end of the day. Training and Communication Attend training sessions to stay proficient in custodial and laundry practices. Regularly check email and district communication portals to stay informed about updates and requirements. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Performs related duties as directed. Serves as a backup to the warehouse for deliveries. ENTRY-LEVEL REQUIREMENTS: 1. EDUCATION/TRAINING: High school diploma or GED preferred. 2. EXPERIENCE: Previous work experience that demonstrates the ability to safely and effectively operate standard facility custodial equipment and the ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 3. CERTIFICATION &/OR LICENSURE: Driver's License required and the ability to move throughout the district if needed. 4. OTHER: Ability to perform the essential functions, meet the performance aptitudes, and fulfill the physical/sensory/environmental requirements of the job (with or without reasonable accommodations) is required. Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition and subtraction. Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action. Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate odors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depths. Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, pathogenic substances, and toxic/poisonous agents.
