The General Manager at Boris and Horton is the owner's right-hand person and a beloved face of our café to our guests (and their pups!). This role is all about bringing the café's fun, community-driven, and dog-loving vibe to life. From crafting a warm and welcoming environment for both humans and canines, to leading the team with a thoughtful, hands-on approach, this person will ensure that every aspect of the café runs like a well-oiled machine. The General Manager will partner closely with the owner, front-of-house (FOH), and back-of-house teams to uphold our high standards and consistently deliver exceptional quality. They're a detail-obsessed, brand-loving leader who thrives on the little things that make Boris and Horton so special. The ideal General Manager is a people-focused mentor, coach, and performance guru. They lead by example, have high personal standards, bring an owner-operator mindset to the table, and"”of course"”have a deep love for dogs! They'll play a key role in reopening the café, including hiring and training the staff, setting the menu and establishing smooth, efficient operational practices that keep everything running effortlessly and profitably! They're passionate about creating an exceptional guest (and dog!) experience. Handle any customer complaints with grace, and make sure the café is always running smoothly and welcoming to all. From inventory and ordering to tracking finances, the General Manager will oversee all the operational details that keep the café running"”keeping an eye on sales, expenses, and ensuring everything's stocked and ready to go. Work closely with the owner to finalize the menu, seasonal specials, and one-off events needs. This person also has a knack for ensuring prices are spot on and up to date in the Point of Sale system. Extremely importantly, the General Manager is responsible for keeping the café safe and compliant with all food handling and safety regulations, ensuring the well-being of both humans and dogs! Responsibilities: Own It All: Take full responsibility for the café's operations"”this includes overseeing the four walls, managing PandL, and handling all café administrative duties with attention to detail. Reports and Recommendations: Provide weekly cost reports to the owner, complete with suggestions on how to improve efficiency, cut costs, and boost profits. Menu and Costs: Manage food, menu, and packaging costs to ensure we're hitting targets without sacrificing quality or fun. Work with the Numbers: Partner with the bookkeeping team to ensure smooth record-keeping, handle large sums of money, and track inventory efficiently. Create a Warm Vibe: Be the model for the authentic, playful, and warm guest experience, while inspiring the team to do the same. Lead by example, especially when it comes to service standards. Stay Safe and Compliant: Make sure the café is always in compliance with health and safety guidelines to keep our guests (and their dogs!) safe. Inventory and Supplies: Order supplies, manage stock levels, and maintain inventory to ensure we're always ready for the next rush. Change Management: Lead café-level change management activities, making sure that any new products, services, or operational updates are communicated clearly and are easily acted upon by the team. Keep Costs in Check: Ensure food, labor, and controllable costs stay within the guardrails set by the company, always keeping an eye on the bottom line. Customer Care: Be the go-to for handling customer complaints, always with a solution-focused and positive attitude. Know the Brand: Stay knowledgeable about the café's brand and menu items so you can lead with confidence and authenticity. People Management: Work closely with the owner to ensure employee policy enforcement, employee files are up-to-date, and On/Offboarding procedures run smoothly. Protect What Matters: Safeguard the café's assets, maintaining confidentiality and integrity when accessing team member information or departmental files. Supervise with Style: Oversee both front-of-house and back-of-house roles to ensure everything runs smoothly. Master of Opening and Closing: Own the opening and closing procedures for the front of house, ensuring everything is set up and wrapped up with precision. Monitor Team Productivity: Keep a pulse on the productivity of both Front of House and Back of House staff to ensure the café is performing at its best. Tech Savvy: Be proficient in all aspects of the Toast/POS system (programming, managing transactions, handling refunds, troubleshooting) to ensure smooth operations. Food and Beverage Quality Control: Oversee food and beverage preparation, ensuring consistency in methods and execution for all menu items and specials. Other Fun Duties: Be ready to pitch in with anything else the owner needs"”whether it's brainstorming new ideas, managing a special event, or taking on a new challenge that keeps Boris and Horton running at its best! Qualifications: Minimum one (1) year experience working as Assistant General Manager, or General Manager position in the Food Service/ Hospitality Field Possesses NYC Food Protection certification Experience as a leader in the customer service industry and/or production environment High school diploma or GED preferred Good computer skills and working knowledge of POS systems, Toast preferred Proven ability to lead in quick paced environments as part of a team Accountability and accuracy in cash handling Customer-service oriented, friendly and hospitable Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail Ability to work individually and as a team in a fast-paced environment Ability to stand for long periods of time Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Must have reliable transportation, be punctual and accountable Must maintain great personal hygiene
