Description Boulder County's Parks and Open Space Department, Resource Management Division, is seeking aResource Specialist: Noxious Weeds Infrastructure Vegetation Management. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties. The Noxious Weeds Infrastructure Management Resource Specialist position provides a unique and rewarding employment opportunity. This position will conduct noxious weed management and other vegetation maintenance activities on county and state road rights-of-way, while also providing noxious weed infrastructure protection for park trailheads (parking lots, picnic areas, etc.) within Boulder County Parks and Open Space. Candidate must possess basic knowledge of native and non-native plants, large agricultural equipment, and herbicide chemistries. The candidate should possess a desire to work outside, have initiative to work unsupervised, and meet defined physical fitness requirements. The hired candidate will receive on- the-job training and will be responsible for hiring and informal supervision of seasonal staff. This is afull-time benefited position. This position typically works anormally flex schedule, 4, 5, 9.First week is Monday - Thursday 6:30a - 4pm, Friday 6:30a - 3:00 (44 Total Hours)Second week: Monday - Thursday 6:30am - 4:00pm (36 Total Hours). This position will work at the OSTC Facility, 5201 St Vrain Rd., Longmont, CO 80503. Under Fair Labor Standards Act this position isexempt. Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. Hiring Salary Range:$68,976.00 - $84,138.00 Annually Tentative Hiring Timeline: * Phone Screening: February 10th * First Round Interviews: February 10th * Second Round Interviews: February 17th * Reference Check: February 7th New employees receive an80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Examples of Duties Field Work (65%) * Operate a computer aided chemical injection spray truck, UTV or pick-up mounted sprayer. * Drive spray truck at slow speeds (maintaining 10-12 mph) and operate computerized spray application computer. * Hire and Train two (2) seasonal roadside mower operators for seasonal mowing of rights of way. Their tasks will be to mow county roadside vegetation for vehicle, cyclist, and pedestrian safety as well as invasive plant management where necessary. * Hire and Train one (1) seasonal infrastructure technician to assist in management of infrastructure vegetation. * Mix, load, and calibrate spray equipment in accordance with product labels. * Use integrated invasive plant management techniques for control of noxious weeds on county rights-of-way and other county properties as assigned. * Operate a 90-120 -horsepower tractor with either a 15-foot mower deck, 10-foot grass drill, a 3-point hitch 6-foot drill or ground tillage equipment. * Must be able to work with tools and prioritize tasks. * Operate chainsaw for control of woody vegetation. * Maintain equipment daily including pre and post trip inspections along with making or coordinating repairs as needed. * Ability to work and interact with the public. Administrative (25%) * Map designated noxious weed infestations using various software applications including, GIS, Cartegraph, AgTerra Spraylogger, EDDMapS, and other software. * Maintain daily spray application records. * Prepare annual plans and maintain resource inventories. * Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public. * Conduct public presentations and engage in public speaking. * Participate in the development and dissemination of publications and education/training programs. * Follow policies and procedures, the Boulder County Code of Conduct and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and appropriate release of information outlined in both. * Assume responsibility and care of equipment including County owned assets as assigned, such as truck, laptop, iPad, phone, and any other equipment, ensuring that they are locked and secure. * Required to attend annual training event. Other Duties as Assigned (10%) * Additional duties may be required as needed. * Overtime may be required in fulfillment of this position. * Assist Supervisor, and co-workers with assignments and tasks requiring independent and individual contribution. * Participate in County training opportunities and group programs such as the Safety Policy Committee. * Not all duties mentioned may be applicable to every position, and the examples provided do not encompass all possible duties that may exist within this job classification. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 6 years in any combination of Education (High School Diploma, GED or College Degree) and relevant work history. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED: * Must be able to obtain a Colorado Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicators Qualified Supervisor (QS) Certification in Industrial and Right-of- Way Weed Control (109) and Pasture (107) and other Categories as determined by manager within 6-8 months of hire. * Boulder County requires that drivers possess and maintain an active valid adult regular driver's license for at least 12 months (foreign licenses are not permitted) . Boulder County will conduct a review of applicant's driving record prior to hiring and will conduct an annual review of employees driving record. Supplemental Information PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Natural Resources, Weed Science or another similar major. * Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, and mapping ArcGIS, and Cartegraph, MapItFast Spraylogger and Strider Form creation or similar spray application software.3 years of field experience with mixing and applying herbicides. * 3 years of field experience with roadside management of invasive species. * 3 years of experience with large agriculture tractors (90-120 hp), 15-foot mowing decks and associated agriculture equipment for revegetation projects. * Experience with multiple invasive plant management techniques.
