The Maintenance Mechanic role will work 3rd shift at the Totowa, NJ plant and report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for the mechanical, and electrical, inspection and upkeep of all Facilities related equipment in the plant. The position also performs preventive maintenance activities, system rebuilds, assistance in parts procurement, spare parts inventory maintenance and other related duties. Responsibilities: * Diagnose mechanical, electrical or instrumental problems and makes necessary repairs. Repairs can include adjustment, parts replacement, lubricating, tear down, rebuilding, and other repairs. * Perform preventive and predictive maintenance duties including equipment checking, parts replacement, lubrication, fluid analysis, treatment additives analysis, efficiency checking, and other duties. * Work from work orders, piping schematics, engineering drawings, and other instructions. * Prepare and maintain records on spare parts inventories. Follow department procedures to maintain levels of spare parts inventories. Assist supervision in procurement of parts and supplies. * Use equipment as required to complete the duties of their position guide. Some equipment used by Maintenance Mechanics includes arc welders, acetylene torches, various power tools, lathe drill press and all types of hand tools. * Fabricate and construct for new and existing facilities including mechanical, masonry, carpentry, electrical (3-phase and single phase), or other areas of work. Some work must be done from ladders, scaffolding, or other forms of temporary work platforms. * Clean and sanitize equipment as required by Plant Operating Standards. Maintain clean, neat and orderly work area to meet plant sanitation standards. * Take action as instructed by the Maintenance & Engineering Manager or other management by direct communication either written, oral or plant communication system. * Take action consistent with established procedures during any emergency condition. Notifiy appropriate personnel when an emergency condition is observed. Always work in accordance with established safety procedures and uses prescribed safety equipment. Follow all safety rules. * Performs other jobs in other classifications as instructed by supervision. * Assist in training personnel as required. * Prepare records of activities in established systems, on batch log sheets, or on other forms and presents them to supervision. Correctly indicate all repairs made, parts used, analysis performed, and other related information. * Must have a good level of comfort with Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) systems to appropriately track and complete work orders. This requires tracking of parts used, hours worked and any other comments necessary. Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED * Minimum three (3) years maintenance experience. Food or beverage manufacturing environment preferred. * Basic math and ability to read to follow procedures and read manuals. * Good communication skills, including over the two-way radio. * Willingness to work on third shift with occasional weekend shifts, and overtime hours as needed. * Ability to troubleshoot, use hand tools, experience with welders, torches, meters, various hand and power tools, drill press, hand truck, forklift, basic blueprint and schematic reading, basic shop math, and basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems. Work Environment and Physical Demands: Maintenance Mechanics are required to work with equipment that handles acids and products at elevated temperatures. When working with this type of equipment, Maintenance Mechanics are expected to wear PPE such as face shields, safety glasses, "hot" gloves, and safety shoes. Maintenance Mechanics must be familiar with vessel entry, pipe opening, and electrical lockout procedures. Usual Physical Activities: Through the course of a typical shift an individual in this position will perform the following activities. * Sits, * Stands, * Walks, * Kneels, * Bends, * Reaches above and below the shoulders, * Traverses multiple levels via stairs, * Minimum lifting capability of 50 pounds, * Corrected vision, speaking ability, and hearing are usually involved in performing written and verbal job functions.
