The City of Appleton is currently accepting applications for vacancies in the Operations Division of Public Works. This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Municipal Services and Water Inventory areas located at the Police Department, Fire Department, Reid Golf Course, Parks and Recreation Department, and Municipal Service Building. Work includes receiving, issuing, labeling, shelving, and delivery of goods and materials. This position is also responsible for performing various parts runs and accurately maintaining the stockroom, warehouse, and stockade quantities in good order. The variety of work differs among positions, but employees in this class are generally responsible for finality of action. Work in the class is performed under the general supervision of the Office Manager and is reviewed in a general manner based on results obtainedEssential Job Functions * Provides customer service to internal and external individuals on a daily basis. * Enters and posts inventory transactions into the MS and Water Inventory Program/JD Edwards system on a daily bases. * Handles receipt of supplies, parts, fuels and other materials from various vendors including the daily delivery from the United Parcel Service. * Handles deliveries for other City Departments. * Handles issue of supplies, parts, lubricates and other materials to include proper chart of account coding. * Completes, codes and verifies inventory tags for daily processing. * Completes, codes and verifies packing slips for daily processing. * Labels and shelves goods/materials with the appropriate inventory tag identification. * Responsible for maintaining the accurate physical count of all stock inventories. * Performs daily inventory parts run and necessary vehicle/equipment deliveries. * Assists with the E-bay Auction. * Analyzes inventory part numbers for obsolete items on a regular basis. * Performs daily, quarterly and annual physical inventory at all locations. * Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required. Other Job Functions * Maintains a clean and organized stockroom/stockade/warehouse. * Recommends vendor options. * Provides assistance to Purchasing. * Operates a forklift. * Maintains department files, records and reports. * Performs other duties as assigned.Requires some experience in inventory management, warehousing, mechanical maintenance, construction, computer software, record keeping and training beyond high school level in stock and inventory control or related field or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills: * Strong knowledge of inventory control methods, practices, and procedures. * Knowledge of equipment maintenance, parts, tools, and methods of repair or public work construction. * Thorough knowledge of mathematics through algebra, business English, spelling, and vocabulary. * Strong ability to maintain records, compile data, and prepare accurate reports. * Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and/or written instructions. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public, and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. * Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines. * Skill in the operation of personal computers and other various office equipment. * Ability to work as a team with other staff members to solve problems and complete tasks. * Knowledge of continuous improvement and employee involvement programs. * Ability to operate a forklift. * Ability to perform tasks on a regular basis, which require frequent standing, climbing, lifting, reaching, bending, squatting and carrying. * Ability to lift, push and pull. * Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the N endorsement.
