With facilities across the Eastern Seaboard, we continue to lead the maritime industry with innovative projects, such as the M/Y Cakewalk, the largest yacht ever built in the U.S.About the RoleWe are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Buyer to join our team. In this role, you will manage the entire order process, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing of materials and services needed for the smooth operation of our shipyards. You will work closely with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure we maintain efficient inventory systems.ResponsibilitiesPrepare and issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs) for various commoditiesEvaluate supplier proposals, negotiate pricing, and select the best vendorsManage and track orders to ensure timely delivery and accurate recordsAnalyze market trends to identify cost-effective solutionsVerify product quality and resolve any delivery issuesMaintain procurement records and approve paymentsCoordinate with other departments to ensure smooth operations and timely project completionOversee inventory control, generate reports, manage shortages, and determine appropriate inventory levels to ensure operational efficiencySupervise and maintain control over the supply room, ensuring accurate and orderly inventory management, and overseeing supply room personnelResearch new materials and sources to evaluate their usefulness, cost-effectiveness, and lead times, making recommendations for procurement decisionsMaintain and regularly update catalog files for purchased materials and equipmentMaintain a collection of manuals for all machinery purchased by the organization, ensuring they are accessible and up-to-dateAttend production and service meetings, providing necessary information on pending orders and procurement statusesMaintain necessary records for follow-up actions or specific vessel-related requirements such as metal weights and cost savings QualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in purchasing, inventory, or supply chain management OR Associate Degree or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or 3 years of related experienceExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailKnowledge of purchasing principles and procedures, purchasing, and contract lawKnowledge of economic principles, large-scale operations, and their organizational structureAbility to multitask and manage several projects simultaneouslyProficient in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Pier Vantage is a plusEqual Opportunity StatementDerecktor is an equal-opportunity employer.
