Summary: The Portland Tennis Center is a fun and busy place with 8 indoor and 4 outdoor tennis courts. It's located in the heart of Portland, Oregon. Our staff and players come from all kinds of backgrounds, and everyone is friendly, caring, and down to earth. The Tennis Center is the main spot for all tennis and pickleball activities in Portland, and we also manage over 100 outdoor courts in our city parks, which means we can reach a lot of people. We have special tennis programs for everyone, from beginners to experienced players, for both kids and adults. There are scholarships and free programs too, so everyone can join in. Our goal is to make sure our community enjoys tennis by offering fun, creative programs with a team of friendly, well-trained staff. Come be part of the fun! Note:This job is open for a long time. Additional Information Instructor Jobs (Parks Activities Specialists): These positions are not union represented. Professional Tennis Instructors work with other staff to plan and organize classes and programs. They talk to staff about what supplies, space, and other things are needed. Instructors build good relationships with students, answer questions, and talk with students about their progress when needed. They also set up and take down equipment for classes and make sure the class is safe and runs smoothly. Instructors may give one-on-one or small group tennis lessons and help students improve. They create lesson plans for private lessons and use encouragement to motivate students. Instructors show students how to play tennis safely, use equipment properly, and promote other classes and information from Portland Parks & Recreation. All instructors must follow Portland Parks & Recreation rules, stay in touch with staff and customers by talking and writing, go to staff meetings and trainings, and respond quickly to safety problems or emergencies. Other duties will be given as needed. Instruct classes in recreation and leisure services in specialty or assignment. Prepare materials for the instructor of classes; monitor participation and evaluate classes. Provide up-to-date, quality tennis assessments, individual tennis training, and high energy motivation. Professional tennis instructors teach lessons that require certification.
