JOB SUMMARY The selected candidate will join a dynamic team of architects and engineers innovating Charter's future networks. The candidate will be responsible for research, architecture, and engineering activities that maintain and enhance the company's telecommunications hardware, software, and services. Collaborates with product, engineering, and operation teams to create technical requirements for newly proposed products and services and deliver proof-of-concepts that demonstrate the proposed technologies and works with the teams to deploy these technologies. The candidate must have a working knowledge in various access technologies including HFC DAA, DOCSIS, and PON. The required skills for the above access technologies include system architecture and testing that enable the successful creation of system requirement documents, design documents, migration strategies, strategic roadmaps, and proof of concepts. The position requires deep knowledge in RF technology and DOCSIS PHY specifications. The candidate will work on the creation of next generation DOCSIS technology and its PHY specifications. The individual will also help to manage vendors with products and service deliverables based on Charter business requirements and internal customer requests. The candidate must show track record of leadership and innovation via previously published technical papers and granted patents. The candidate must be able to clearly communicate in writing as well as verbally, properly represent Charter in Cablelabs and SCTE standards bodies, and write technical papers for conferences in the cable industry. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience. Researches, designs, implements proof-of-concepts, monitors and enhances systems. Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary. Tests and reviews system designs. Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to partner teams and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met. Mentors and guides the work of technical staff. Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable. Knows, understands and follows company policy. Performs other duties as requested by manager. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols. Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology. Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model. Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations. Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances. Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio. Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly. Ability to use personal computer and software applications. Required Education Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience. Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years Engineering work experience - 5-10. Project management work experience - 5-10. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Electrical Engineering education, Master's degree preferred. Strong working knowledge of upper layer protocols such as MAC and IP. Preferred Education Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE). Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.).
