POSITION SUMMARYThe Shift Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and direction for day-to-day production requirements in accordance with plant policies and procedures. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise shift production operation in accordance with plant policies and proceduresResponsible for shift schedule to include: workstation assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignments, and back-up for absent employeesGuide and supervise the work of shift employees, including leadsCoordinate production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers Provide input on work procedures, priorities, ongoing feedback, and recommendationsAssist in production as required to meet business needsTrain, coach, and mentor production employees within designated area of responsibilityPromote positive employee relations and effective team cooperation while enhancing individual performanceEnforce safety protocols in all areas and with all employeesResponsible for corrective/preventative actions in response to daily safety, product quality, and product delivery issuesCoordinate with Production Manager and Human Resources for appropriate staffing levelsConduct shift meetings and participate in production employee meetingsResponsible for meeting shift production requirements, identify shortcomings, and develop/execute recovery plans when needed Assist with quality control throughout production and investigate and implement corrective and preventive measures for ongoing quality issues to prevent, reduce, or eliminate reoccurrenceAssist with development/implementation as well as maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs); ensure production team is working within these standardsCommunicate effectively with other Shift Supervisors and Production Manager with the goal of keeping them informed of situations relating to production problems, machine maintenance, inventory shortages, quality, safety, employee attendance, and other issues that may affect productionAssist with completion of paperwork for Worker's Compensation injuries/illnesses and near misses; assist in accident investigationsAssist in inventory counts as neededEnsure clean and safe work areas; assist with development of 5S expectations and overall execution Assist in employee performance reviews and developmentSupport new product development initiatives within the organizationAssist with trouble-shooting issues from quality, machine operation, and material processing, while developing and implementing solutions as needed to improve reoccurring problems and support continuous improvementContinually focused on reducing all forms of waste through the entire manufacturing process including, but not limited to, scrap, redundancy, material flow, and work content.Other duties as assigned.WORKING CONDITIONSWorking conditions are normal for a manufacturing environmentWork involves lifting of materials and product up to 50 poundsSafety glasses required in production area; other PPE available/required, depending upon area of the plant RequirementsJOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and EDUCATIONTechnical/Associates degree OR 5 years leadership experience required2-5 years of manufacturing experience requiredBasic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills requiredExtensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and machineryIntermediate computer skills, to include MS Office knowledge, requiredAbility to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and leadershipAbility to work with minimum supervision and directionAbility to manage projects or improvements from initial problems to final solutions as well as maintain them Ability to lift up to 50 pounds requiredAbility to effectively problem solveAbility to work in standing position throughout shift, with frequent walkingMust be available to work any shift for training and overtime as required
