Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible); full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; full-benefits This position will perform routine manual work consisting of a wide variety of parks maintenance and custodial tasks for the Division of Parks and Recreation and will, as needed, drive a dump truck with trailer or other Parks and Recreation vehicle. Supervision is received from a Park Maintenance Supervisor and/or Parks Maintenance Leader. NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions. For transfers and promotions, wage rates are calculated per County policy. The qualifications/requirements, knowledge/skills/abilities and physical requirements or working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. * Possession of a valid automobile operator's license * NOTE: Applicants who possess a CDL - A license may be hired as the Technician II level at $18.33/hour KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: * Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges * Knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in maintenance and/or construction work * Knowledge of hazards associated with the operation and care of various tools and equipment (e.g. trucks, mowers, chain saws, power tools, etc.) with knowledge of appropriate safety precautions * Ability to operate and care for equipment in a safe and effective manner * Accurate clerical skills, including the ability to properly complete and maintain inventory forms, work records and other paperwork * Ability to understand and follow spoken and written (English) instructions * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR: * Park maintenance work experience * Snow removal work experience * High school graduation or the equivalent * Landscaping or general construction experience PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS: * While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly walk, and lift up to 20 pounds; frequently sit, lift between 20 - 50 pounds, push up to and over 40 pounds, pull up to and over 40 pounds and reach; occasionally climb, stoop, perform repetitive motions and drive; and rarely crawl * While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly work in a dirty, dusty and noisy environment, and near machinery; frequently work outdoors, walk on uneven ground and is required to wear protective equipment; occasionally work indoors, work in hot temperatures above 100 degrees and cold temperatures below 32 degrees, work in confined spaces and at heights, and near chemicals or fumes; and rarely has potential exposure to infectious diseases * Physical requirements include the ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time; use various types of hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment (string trimmer, edger, shovel/pick/mattock, tractor/hand lawn mower, etc.); and lift and/or move plantings and various pieces of equipment * Available to work for Parks and Recreation at various County events, frequent weekend work or irregular hours as needed, and on-call for snow removal or other emergency situations * Available for a minimum of three mandatory Parks and Recreation events * NOTE: Employees in the Technician I classification must pass the modified Class A CDL drivers license within 1 year of hire (which includes the 6 month probationary period) or otherwise will be terminated from employment. EXAMINATION PROCESS (may include): 1) An evaluation of training and experience 2) One or more interviews 3) A pre-employment physical examination and drug test to include marijuana 4) A pre-employment background investigation through a public records search
