Position Type: Auxiliary/Auxiliary Date Posted: 1/9/2025 Location: Athletics Additional Information: Show/Hide Spring Branch Independent School District Job Description Tree Care/Heavy Trash Crew Worker II Job Title: Tree Care/Heavy Trash Crew Worker II Reports To: Supervisor of Tree Care/Heavy Trash Crew Classification: Auxiliary (Skilled Labor) Category: 8 (Auxiliary) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 250 Salary: See Compensation Plan - Auxiliary Support Staff Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Responsible for maintaining the grounds of all facilities in a pleasing and professional manner, conducive to a better educational environment. Qualifications/Skills: Education/License: * Minimum ninth (9) grade education or equivalent preferred. * Must have a current Texas CDL Driver's License Special Knowledge/Skills: * Ability to work well with peers and managers. * Ability to communicate effectively in English. * Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish, preferred. * Ability to safely operate and maintain tree care and heavy trash removal equipment. * Work well in a crew environment. Experience: * Minimum three (3) years experience operating all applicable tree care and heavy trash removal equipment. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Grounds and Landscaping: * Maintain and detail grounds in a manner to maximize their use. * Driving the district Heavy Dump Truck to pick up and deliver supplies to different campuses as well as pick up and drop off heavy trash throughout the district. * Operate heavy equipment including tractor, skid steer loader, top dresser, and aerator. * Tree removal and disposal. Tree trimming and disposal. * Care for trees, shrubs and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds and controlling weeds. * Plant shrubs and vegetation. * Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish and refuse from district facilities. * Bulk material handling, mulch, select fill, asphalt patching material. * Bulk trash hauling. Varmint control. * Asphalt patching. Safety: * Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. * Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. * Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. * Help keep vehicle, equipment and tools in safe operating condition. * Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed. Other: * Transport and/or set up equipment for social, athletic or other SBISD activities. * Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Heavy equipment, heavy dump truck, tractor, skid steer loader, top dresser, aerator, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, garden and hand tools, posthole auger and aerator. Light truck or van, dump trailer, gas powered chain saw, gas powered pole saw, gas powered hedge trimmer and gas powered stump grinder. Working Conditions: Mental Demands: * Maintain emotional control under stress. * Work with frequent interruptions. * This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands: * Continual standing and walking. * Ability to perform tree care from a bucket truck at heights up to 30 feet in the air. * Ability to perform extensive physical and repetitive activities, including but not limited to pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, carrying and the regular lifting of 100 pounds. * Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder), moderate lifting and carrying. * Occasional overtime is required. * Work for continuous or extended periods of time. Environmental Factors: * Exposure to sun, heat, cold, poor weather conditions and/or mechanical equipment noise. * Exposure to chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer). * Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles.
