Position Summary The Vice President of Engineering is responsible for driving the company's technical strategy, overseeing software development, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure products. This role involves leading and mentoring engineering teams, collaborating with cross-functional departments, and aligning technology initiatives with business goals. Key responsibilities include managing the engineering roadmap, optimizing development processes, and ensuring adherence to best practices. Position Details Salary range: $180K - $220K Location: Boulder, Colorado Full-Time Hybrid - Work in the Boulder office a minimum of 3 days per week Reports to: Chief Technology Officer Travel requirements: Once a quarter Number of direct reports: 4; ~50 employees within engineering group Primary Responsibilities Define and execute the company's technical roadmap in a way that is aligned with business objectives. Evaluate emerging technologies and ensure the adoption of relevant innovations. Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing engineering team. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative engineering culture. Develop career growth opportunities and ensure employee engagement. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions. Collaborate with Product Management to align development efforts with customer needs and market demands. Monitor key performance metrics and optimize the engineering team's performance. Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively to meet business goals. Implement and improve agile development processes for efficiency and quality. Work closely with Product, Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing leadership to align technology initiatives with company goals. Proactively address technical debt. Minimum Qualifications College Degree or higher, preferably in an Engineering discipline, including a Master's in a related field. Minimum of 10 years experience in engineering resource/multi-project management with progressive leadership responsibility. Minimum of 5 years of product development experience, with a strong preference for experience in the power market energy industry. Ability to provide concurrent oversight to multiple resources and projects in multiple regions; prior global responsibility is strongly desirable. Ability to communicate clearly and articulate complex concepts and plans to diverse audiences at all levels of the organization. Must be able to work in the Boulder, Colorado office at least 3 days per week. Key Competencies, Skills and Attributes: Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask/handle multiple activities concurrently in a global matrix organizational structure. Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English), with experience presenting project information across all levels of an organization. Deep understanding of SaaS architecture, multi-tenancy, scalability, and cloud-based platforms. Proficiency in modern programming languages, frameworks, and development methodologies (e.g., CI/CD, DevOps, Agile). Ability to analyze metrics, performance data, and market trends to inform technical decisions. Knowledge of data security standards (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR) and best practices for secure software development. Ability to define and communicate a long-term technical roadmap aligned with business goals. Strong skills in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top engineering talent. Effective communicator who can align engineering with product, sales, and customer success teams. Experience managing budgets, allocating resources, and optimizing operational costs. Knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes in SaaS. Focused on delivering measurable results and achieving strategic milestones. Strong interpersonal skills to connect with team members and stakeholders at all levels.
