The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is responsible for maintaining 12,750 miles of sidewalk and more than 185,000 corners throughout the city. The Pedestrian Ramp Program (PRP), a unit within SIM, is committed to providing pedestrian (curb) ramps citywide that meet applicable accessibility laws and guidelines. Pedestrian ramps are a critical component in providing safe and accessible means of travel throughout New York City. PRP has an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced, collaborative, innovative team. The selected candidate will be part of PRP's Planning Team, who is responsible for the identification of project needs and development, management of the program's multibillion dollar capital and expense budget, verification of project conflicts, analysis of citywide survey data, maintenance of an inventory of pedestrian ramps, maintenance of a public-facing website, and the development of work plans for future pedestrian ramp upgrades and construction activities. Under the direction and supervision of the Planning Director, the selected candidate will assist with planning efforts. Primary responsibilities will include: Scoping high-quality pedestrian ramp reconstruction projects to be performed by partner agencies. Evaluating and making recommendations for improvements to processes and workflows. Creating reports and providing updates on status and progress. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, accurate, and a capable team player. They should have excellent organizational skills, a positive attitude, and possess excellent communication skills, along with a willingness to offer solutions. The selected candidate will work closely with other DOT divisions and other agencies such as New York City Department of Design & Construction (DDC), Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to ensure the implementation of high-quality pedestrian ramps throughout the City. Additional responsibilities include the planning and management of work assigned to DOT's in-house pedestrian ramp construction crews and contracts managed by DDC. The candidate will also represent the agency at public meetings and events and perform other related duties as assigned by the Planning Director and PRP executive. Minimum Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or 2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to "1" above. Graduate education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development, or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree. Special Qualification Requirements Assignment Level III: To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one additional year of professional experience as described in "2" above. Assignment Level IV: To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, two additional years of professional experience as described in "2" above. Preferred Skills Experience related to roadway reconstruction/construction engineering is preferred. Familiarity with NYC infrastructure projects and Americans with Disabilities Act preferred. Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
