Summary: Leads and directs the credit union's accounting functions. Establishes and maintains the organization's overall accounting systems, procedures, and policies. Ensures compliance with existing and new generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory accounting principles. Directs all analysis and reporting of financial information including budgets, planning, and required filings and reports. Presents findings and recommendations to management. Manages relationships with auditors and regulators and is responsible for the execution of internal and external audits. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Master's degree in Accounting or related field preferred. Minimum ten years progressive accounting experience with a thorough knowledge of US GAAP and technical research. Minimum 5 years of management experience. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification required. Financial institutions experience required. Experience in leading and managing a team of accounting professionals. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Hands on experience dealing with a wide variety of complex accounting issues and presenting findings and recommendations in a clear and summarized manner. Experience overseeing large multi-state payroll processing. Experience with ACH and Wire transfer rules/regulations and operations preferred. Process oriented with ability to identify the need for process and control changes and be able to work cross-functionally to drive and influence these changes. Ability to adapt quickly and operate effectively in a rapidly scaling, dynamic environment. Strong analytical and verbal/written communication skills. Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to forge strong relationships. Ability to assess a situation, mitigate risk, and find the most effective path forward. Process improvement and project management experience. Quick learner to pick up new information and technologies. Job Responsibilities: Lead the accounting function of the Credit Union and maintain a deep involvement in the following: All financial and regulatory reporting of the organization; Security and integrity of the data accumulated; Safeguarding of assets of the organization through the establishment of a sound system of internal controls and in the documentation of such in accounting policies and procedures. Lead month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliation review, financial statement preparation, actual to budget variance analysis and Board reporting. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements. Keep abreast of emerging GAAP standards, assess impact to the organization and ensure timely implementation. Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes to keep the leadership team abreast of the organizations' financial status. Ensure compliance with existing credit union policies and procedures. Develop, recommend, and implement improvements to existing policies and procedures to improve efficiency and maintain strong effective internal controls. Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes of a $10B financial institution and drive change through analysis of results. Deliver a cohesive and effective strategic budget that meets regulatory requirements while offering quantitative and qualitative insight to support decision making. Lead and shape the financial planning and analysis function, bringing together the skills and capabilities across the organization. Drive profitability analysis and reporting and suggest changes to support better business outcomes. Lead and direct multi-state payroll processing for approximately 900 employees ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable federal and state laws. Lead and direct the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) processes for the credit union. This includes both Automated Clearing House (ACH) and Wire Transfer activities for the credit union and its membership. Ensure internal controls, policies and procedures are appropriate and working effectively. Maintain a highly motivated, well-trained staff and evaluate job performance in a timely manner to ensure quality of work and service to members and staff. Lead relationships with internal and external auditors. Minimize any non-compliance action and ensure action items resulting from the audit are addressed and resolved. Supervise and mentor teammates, foster a collaborative and performance driven culture. Keeps the Chief Financial Officer fully informed on the conditions and operations of the department and on all important factors influencing the department. Performs all duties inherent in a managerial role and as needed upon request by immediate supervisor. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications and operational needs. The salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
