Position Purpose/Summary * Please note that this is a Civil Service position.This position is not currently open, should there become an opening we will hire off of the list of applicants starting with the oldest application date.* APPLICATION FOR CITY OF SPRINGFIELD LABOR SERVICE Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of filing application. Incomplete applications will not be processed. The name of an applicant will remain on the Labor Service register for the job title which he or she is registered for a period of not more than 5years from the date of registration, subject to a renewal of registration as provided in Section 28, Chapter 31 of the General Laws, and subject to compliance with other applicable provisions of the Civil Service law and rules. Responsible for overseeing aspects of the maintenance, operation, and management of grounds at municipal golf courses. Work is performed under the supervision of the Greens Superintendent. Supervision is exercised over other employees. Essential Functions * Assists in managing and maintaining properties which may include:golf course and practice areas, maintenance equipment, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, restrooms and potable water on course, open spaces, wooded areas, unused acreage and areas outside the perimeter fence, sod farm and nursery, and other properties as specified by the Superintendent of Public Parks. * Oversees the spraying of tees, greens, and fairways. * Supervises irrigation repairs and maintenance to various equipment. * Assists in the planning of some maintenance and project work. * Oversees greens crew and relevant training. * Assists in acquiring equipment and purchasing necessary supplies to maintain club properties.Oversees inventory control and the equipment maintenance programs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Requires general knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practice. * Requires knowledge on irrigation systems and golf course equipment. * Requires a high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making. * Requires current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator. Education and Experience * High school diploma or equivalent. * Minimum of three years experience working with golf courses, turf management and related equipment.
