SEPTA has become an integral force in the economic success of the Philadelphia region, providing an efficient and reliable source of transportation.We are seeking candidates for the position of Senior Construction Inspector (9115) - Fire Systems in the MOW/Staff & Administration department.Opening Date: 01/07/2025Closing Date: 01/21/2025Job Grade: SAM 37Starting Salary: $84,136.00Limited telework may be permitted for this position in accordance with SEPTA Policy.OVERALL DESCRIPTIONThis position requires a background in maintenance and/or construction, and a basic understanding of construction Quality Assurance and Third Party Service Contract Administration practices. The Senior Construction Inspector performs inspection and quality assurance aspects of various projects assigned by the manager for fire alarms and fire suppression systems, to ensure that project implementation and completion meet the requirements and needs of SEPTA. Performs work which involves conventional types of inspection services, scopes of work, plans, structures, equipment, and construction with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains a diary or log book, recording contractor manpower and hours on the job site, weather conditions, data relative to questions of work directive changes, change orders, or changed conditions, list of job site visitors, daily activities, decisions and observations in general. Monitors and coordinates force account support for contractor's work. Successfully complete SEPTA's 2-week training class for Rail Safety and Operating Rules (CTD/STD) and/or NORAC certification (RRD) and annual 1-day recertification classes if required. Utilizes an understanding of these rules to enforce QA standards regarding project safety and worker protection. Inspects contractor's operation to ensure work is performed in a safe manner and that workmanship is consistent with contract requirements, including snow removal supervisory oversight during potential off hours requiring overtime. Investigates and evaluates requests for new contract services or change orders and recommend appropriate action to the manager. Analyzes, evaluates and interprets contract documents. The Senior Construction Inspector independently evaluates, selects and applies standard construction and maintenance techniques, procedures and criteria. The individual can use judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. May be responsible for assisting in the training of Field Engineers and/or Administrative Staff in the duties of project inspection. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or GED with ten (10) years of maintenance in fire alarm, fire suppression or meaningful construction experience is required. Experience should include working with fire alarm and sprinkler systems. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered (one (1) year of post-high school education equates to two (2) years of experience) in lieu of the above requirements. NICET Level II Certification would be considered as equivalent to two (2) years of advanced education. Valid Driver's License required. Demonstrated computer literacy; working knowledge of personal computers including Windows, MS Office, and project management software preferred.
