Aspen Publishing is seeking a Senior Content Manager to be a part of our growing Production Team. This position is based in our Burlington, MA, office with a hybrid office/work-from home schedule. You will work in partnership with the Editorial, Production, Marketing, and Digital Teams to deliver on Aspen's mission to be the best in legal education publishing.The ideal candidate will be highly detailed and service oriented with an eye toward creating efficiencies, have excellent communication skills, be highly organized, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. TITLE: Senior Content Manager (Production)REPORTS TO: Director of Production & ManufacturingDEPARTMENT: Editorial & ProductionFLSA STATUS: ExemptLOCATION: Burlington, MAPOSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for managing a variety of projects from manuscript to production (print and ePub) within budget to achieve editorial goals including complex and/or high-profile projects on schedule, adhering to internal specifications, and meeting quality standards; managing on- and offshore vendors through monitoring workloads, schedules, quality, and communication and escalating issues appropriately; building and maintaining effective, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met; mentoring junior staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Manage production work of freelancers and vendors (on- and offshore) to deliver high-quality, commercially successful print and digital textbooks and ancillaries on time and within budgetAssess scope and needs of project and collaborate with internal and external teams to meet editorial, design, workflow, schedule, quality, and cost requirementsWork closely with Editorial team to ensure effective production launch meetings for new and revised titlesWork in close collaboration with authors, internal stakeholders, and external vendors, acting as main publishing team facilitator throughout production to ensure project goals are achievedMaintain schedule adherence by tracking the progress of titles through production and actively intervening as needed; Communicate changes promptly to Managing Editors and the Director; Monitor progress and manage changes to project scope and schedule; communicate revised project details to project team Actively collaborate with digital team to ensure quality control and schedule goals are met for all formatsInspect copyediting samples and sample pages to ensure that Publisher's quality expectations are metReview project documentation for accuracy and updates internal product tracking systemsProactively mitigate risks by resolving questions and problems and independently analyzes and addresses more complex issuesCheck vendor invoices and ensure accuracy for payment approvalAssist in review and creation of program guidelines (including process documents, style sheets, vendor standards, server and sftp folder structure) and suggest updates to best practices and standards as neededIn collaboration with the Director, generate ideas for increased efficiency in the production processAlways represent Aspen Publishing in a professional and competent mannerProactively pursue professional development activitiesManage time and company resources appropriatelyPerform other duties as assigned by supervisorQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree, preferably Journalism/Communications/English or equivalent10+ years educational publishing, with a focus on project management, or related experienceDeep understanding of book production processExperience overseeing offshore full-service production vendorsDemonstrated ability to independently manage high-priority projects with demanding schedulesSkilled at working in a team environment, developing collaborative and productive relationships, and effectively directing outside vendors and freelancersStrong copyediting and proofreading skillsProven problem-solving and critical-thinking skillsAble to predict, identify, and independently resolve issues in a timely and effective mannerAbility to adopt and implement new processes, procedures, and standards in an environment of continuous improvement and innovationExperience with 1, 2 and 4/c printingAble to provide training and constructive feedback to less experienced team membersStrong knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Word) and Adobe Acrobat (PDF)Excellent verbal and written communication skills, English requiredStrong presentation skills and public speaking skills Liaising between internal and external groupsWilling to travel occasionallyWorking with individuals at all levels of the organizationPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Normal Office EnvironmentAbility to sit for extended periods of timeAbility to work on computer for extended periods of timeAbility to listen and speak carefully while interacting with othersAbility to lift up to 10 pounds occasionallyABOUT US: Aspen Publishing is a leading provider of educational content and digital learning solutions to law schools in the US and around the world Aspen provides best-in-class solutions for legal education through authoritative textbooks written by renowned authors and breakthrough products such as Connected eBooks, Connected Quizzing, and PracticePerfect.
