JOB SUMMARY: This position is an apprenticeship design to develop an inexperienced employee to be an expert in one or more of the traditional trades (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Welding, Carpentry, Sheet-metal Fabrication, Painting and/or others). This is a Time Limited Position. Performs other duties as assigned. JOB DUTIES: 60% - Essential - Learns and assists experienced employees with routine work in a variety of preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair tasks. Cleans and maintains tools and equipment. Loads and unloads equipment and supplies. Assists with area cleanup when work is complete. 30% - Essential - Learns new skills. Has the ability to understand and follow instructions. Performs manual labor. Operates hand-tools and small equipment safely. 5% - Essential - Attends training classes. Accurately records On-The-Job learning hours. 5% - Essential - Safety: Promotes safe workplace and work practices. Complies with all OSHA safety mandates. Follows University Facilities policies and procedures. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Education and Experience: A High School Diploma or equivalent, and experience related to the area of employment. Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal RESPONSIBILITIES JOB KNOWLEDGE Fundamental Job Knowledge - Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees. BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 60% - Stand for prolonged period 10% - Sit (stationary position) for prolonged period 70% - Walk or move about 70% - Use hands or feet to operate or handle machinery, equipment, etc 15% - Ascend or descend (i.e. stairs, ladder) 30% - Position self to accomplish task (i.e. stoop, kneel, crawl) 25% - Communicate, converse, give direction, express oneself 50% - Recognize or inspect visually 60% - Move, transport, raise or lower 60% - Extends hands or arms in any direction 15% - Use taste or smell to detect or determine particular flavors or odors 60% - Perceive, observe, clarity of vision WORKING CONDITIONS: 40% - Exposure to heat or cold 20% - Exposure to dust/fumes 25% - Wet or humid 25% - Noise 10% - Vibration 50% - Mechanical hazards 30% - Electrical hazards 20% - Radiant energy hazards 35% - Burn hazards 20% - Chemical hazards 30% - Exposure to bio-hazards (i.e. blood, bodily fluids) WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8;00am - 4:00pm. Standard Hours: 40 COMPENSATION INFORMATION Expected Salary Range: ($ 27,510.00 - $ 39,270.00) Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines. ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL Normal Operations Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
