Hiring one full-time Senior Parks Technician assigned to the Horticulture team. Seeking a dedicated individual to supervise and participate in the maintenance and development of park areas. Responsibilities include tasks such as weed eradication, watering, aeration, planting, trash removal, snow removal, pest and disease control, and general horticulture operations. This role also involves collaborating with other divisions within the parks department to support overall park operations and ensure the upkeep of public spaces. This position assists with Snow Control Operations that is compensated through on-call pay, regular pay, and/or overtime pay. (Persons hired in this position must be able to perform all the essential tasks required by the position. Examples of duties are not intended to be all-inclusive or restrictive.) * Performs maintenance on flower beds, shrub beds and turf areas including assisting with the diagnosis and treatment of disease and pests, aeration, weed mitigation, planting and pruning shrubs and perennials, and planting annual beds. * Perform semi-skilled and skilled park maintenance duties in a lead worker capacity. * Supervises and participates in the preparation, development, and maintenance of park areas. * Recruit, schedule, train, supervise and prepares performance evaluations on lower-level division employees. * Prepares and implements weekly work schedules. * Maintain a variety of records relating to maintenance, construction, and inspection of parks and facilities * May assume responsibility for division activities during absence of supervisor. * Assists in the operation of snow equipment during inclement weather, and is available for snow control duties after hours and on weekends. * Required to work special events on holidays, weekends, and outside normally scheduled working hours. Education: * High School Diploma/GED - required * Must possess a pesticide license from the Department of Agriculture, or obtain one within 6 months of hire. Experience * 2 year experience required in parks maintenance. * 1 year experience preferred in supervision of seasonal labor, volunteers, or part time positions. Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (in addition to above requirements): Must be 18 years or older. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks, which may include local police check and sex-offender registry, and pre-employment physical. If this position is required to drive a CCOB vehicle a DMV check will be required. * Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required. * Required to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. * Required to communicate and/or detect sounds * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, color vision, and peripheral vision. * Work near moving mechanical parts. * Work in year-round outdoor weather conditions. * Requires indoor and outdoor activities. * The noise level in the environment is moderate to loud.
