Irrigation Technician Job Status: UNTIL FILLED Posting Date: 12/04/2024 Posting Number: 012098 Location: Facilities Position Title: Irrigation Technician Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Grounds Supervisor Primary Purpose: Responsible for the control, repairs and maintenance of all irrigation systems throughout the District, except for Athletic Competition Sports Fields. However, will work with Athletic grounds as required when updating and repairing the irrigation systems on the sports fields. Will be the contact for emergency situations that affect the school district's ability to operate. The Irrigation Technician will assess and consider daily the safety of our employees, security of our assets and the service to our stakeholders. Qualifications: Education/Certification: * High School Diploma or GED * Licensed Irrigator, certificate from trade school or equivalent work experience related to project management, vendor management. * Certified Irrigation Auditor or able to be certified within the first year of employment. Special Knowledge/Skills: * Knowledgeable in all phases of irrigation and irrigation systems. Not limited to design, installation, repair, troubleshooting, etc. * Effectively communicate with all employees, contractors and vendors (Verbally as well as in writing) * Self-starter and team player * Highly organized an able to provide deliverables in support of project plans. Experience: * Irrigation and or maintenance experience is a plus Major Responsibilities and Duties: * Acts as the primary contact for all irrigation issues throughout the District. * Monitors all Irrigation Systems daily. Works closely with District personnel and contractors to ensure work is completed according to specifications. * Inspect all systems to verify they are working as designed and all components are functioning properly. * Check all systems at least every two months. Do a system control analysis and make adjustments. All major repairs should be presented to the Facilities Coordinator or designee for approval. * Set controllers to provide adequate irrigation with a minimum of 1" per week. Watering schedules must not interfere with the normal functions of the schools or cause inconvenience for students, teachers, staff, and visitors. * Technician shall perform a bi-annual audit of the irrigation system per City of Allen requirements. Copies of the results shall be submitted to the City of Allen and Allen ISD. Technician shall schedule audits with the Facilities Coordinator. * The City of Allen may institute a restricted watering policy from time to time, due to drout /dry conditions or changes in policy. The technician is responsible for adjusting the automatic watering systems to meet the City of Allen requirements. * Technician may be required to adjust or temporarily disable any system due to a special event or scheduling change, at no cost to the district. * Adjust heads, nozzles, valves, timers, and all other components of the irrigation systems as necessary to insure that the systems are working properly. * Repair sprinkler heads damaged by mowers and as requested by Facilities Coordinator. Repair or replace valve / access covers. * Technician will receiving work orders from the District's Maintenance Management System. Technician will acknowledge receipt of work order and correct problem by the next business day on work orders prioritized (3) Interest, same day on work orders prioritized (2) Urgent, and within two hours on work orders prioritized as (1) Emergency. Upon completion of work, technician will email District details of work performed and completion date. * Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and adjusting the irrigation systems on a monthly basis. Actual operation of irrigation systems can occur only during the hours prior to 7:00 A.M. or after 7:00 P.M. Monday - Friday. Systems are to be set in such a manner to apply at least 1" of water to sod and shrub areas each week. Allen ISD requires that all pop-up heads be replaced with Rainbird 1800 series with PRS and all rotary heads be replaced with Rainbird 5500 or 6000 series with PRS, depending on pipe size. * Additional Irrigation: Contractor is required to maintain adequate water coverage around newly constructed or renovated areas. * Solicits bids and quotes from vendors. * Order and maintain supplies. Keep detailed inventory. * Transports goods or equipment as assigned. * Performs immediate cleaning duties as necessary to maintain a clean and safe environment. * Performs other duties assigned by Facilities Manager or Superintendent. Abilities: * Understand and follow oral and written instructions. * Able to prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks. * Able to work effectively under pressure and against time restraints. * Ability to use power and non-power tools. * Must be able to travel to various work-site locations on demand. Supervisory Responsibilities: * None at this time * Direct and oversee any helper that may be required in the future. Customer Care Skills: None. Mental Demands/Physical Demands: * Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, balance, crawl and reach for extended periods of time. * Must be able to work in all weather conditions. * Must have basic computer skills/knowledge. * Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. * Must be comfortable and able to work on a ladder of 20 feet. * Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision. * Must possess a valid Texas Driver license and reliable transportation. EVALUATION: Evaluation of job performance is a continuous process designed to improve the quality of work performed. Performance evaluations shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of policies pertaining to Evaluation of Auxiliary Personnel. Salary: Pay Grade 0S05, $18.88 - $22.37 hourly rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule. Days: 261
