GLENDALE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS DESCRIPTION MAINTENANCE WORKER II DEFINITION Performs responsible skilled activities related to the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, structures, and related facilities. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS A Maintenance Worker II performs advanced, skilled general maintenance and repair work on District buildings and facilities. A Maintenance Worker I performs semiskilled to skilled general maintenance work on District buildings and facilities of a routine and less complex nature. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED General supervision is provided by the Regional Maintenance Supervisor or a high level maintenance management position. No supervision is exercised over District personnel. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Repairs, adjusts, and installs plumbing systems and related facilities including water and sewer lines. Operates and maintains steam boilers and chillers in heating, ventilating, and refrigeration systems. Changes filters and services motors and belts in heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems. Performs minor touchup painting and similar building repairs. Repairs lockers, fabricates replacement parts, installs screens and similar metal enclosures, and performs other general metal repair and maintenance tasks. Replaces ceiling and floor tiles, repairs furniture, and repairs and replaces door closures. Cleans and maintains equipment used in the course of work such as electric drills, floor buffers and sanders, vacuum cleaners, electric powered plumbers' snake, and other similar equipment. Designs, installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts landscaping sprinkler systems, electric and hydraulic valves, and sprinkler system clocks. Troubleshoots and diagnoses repair needs on sprinkler system clocks, controllers, and electrically and hydraulically controlled sprinkler systems. Performs related work as required. CLASS QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Materials, tools, methods, and procedures used in the building trades. Safe work practices. Operational characteristics and maintenance requirements of heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems. Sprinkler system installation, repair, and operational characteristics. Ability to: Work with hand and power tools common to the building trades. Perform heavy physical labor. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Perform difficult and complex general maintenance tasks. Be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Two years of experience in one or more of the building or maintenance trades. Desirable: Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
