Position Type: Auxiliary/Auxiliary Date Posted: 6/4/2024 Location: Transportation Additional Information: Show/Hide Spring Branch Independent School District Job Description Mechanic III Job Title: Mechanic III Reports To: Transportation Fleet Manager Classification: Auxiliary (Skilled Labor) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 250 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Pay Plan, Pay Grade 308 Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Responsible for performing mechanical repairs on all types of district vehicles, including buses, trucks, vans and cars. Qualifications/Skills: Education/License: * High school diploma or equivalent preferred. * Must have an acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety. * Must be able to obtain a class A CDL Driver's license with a P & S endorsement in order to operate a school bus & district wrecker. * ASE Automotive Certifications or TASBT school bus certifications a plus. Special Knowledge/Skills: * Must have working knowledge of at least three (3) years in vehicle components and operation of brake, cooling, fuel, starting and charging systems, and be able to efficiently repair failures of each system. * Practice regular and reliable attendance. * Proficient in written and verbal communication. * Possess knowledge of hand tools and shop equipment operation. Experience: * Must have working knowledge of at least three (3) years in vehicle components and operation of brake, cooling, fuel, starting and charging systems, and be able to efficiently repair failures of each system. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Maintenance and Repair: * Repair and replacement of bolt on components. * Test, replace and or repair starting, charging and lighting systems. * Test, adjust, replace and or repair engine performance problems on gasoline and diesel powered vehicles. Service engines, transmissions including chassis lubrication and fuel system maintenance. * Test, adjust, repair and or replace hydraulic systems to include: brakes and lifting equipment. Test, adjust, repair and or replace air brake systems. * Perform tire work including mounting and balancing all types and sizes. * Insure shop equipment is clean, operational and safe. Safety: * Follow shop safety guidelines and attend safety meetings. * Keep shop equipment operational and safe. Other: * Participate in cross training and attend in-service training and safety meetings as required by the department. * Drive bus routes as needed. * Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Shop equipment, including ladders, power tools, mops, brooms, etc. Working Conditions: Mental Demands: * Maintain emotional control under stress. * Work with frequent interruptions. * This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands: * Continual standing, walking, pushing, and pulling. * Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder), moderate lifting and carrying.
