This requires close coordination and communication with the Operations, Customer Service and Maintenance workgroups. This is a supervisory role responsible for the supervision of production staff. The role of this position is to ensure health, safety and environmental (HSE), process safety management (PSM), and quality management system (QSM) standards are met in the assigned area. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMay include, but are not limited to, the following:Directly supervise and direct hourly employees in a production unit. Administer discipline as necessary according to the collective bargaining agreement and rules governing the operation of the plantMaintain a safe working environment while maximizing production efficiencyEnsure Environmental compliance at all timesInvestigate all incidents (Health Safety, Environmental, Quality, Production, et) that occur in area of responsibility during shift in which the incident occurs, providing results of investigation to Management in a timely mannerUnderstand and troubleshoot equipment and processes in the departmentResponsible for assessing situation(s) and prioritizing resourcesPrepare equipment for maintenance and perform required permittingServe the role of Incident Commander during plant emergency eventsServe as a member of the Emergency Crew during plant emergenciesCall in maintenance and operations personnel as neededCommunicate with coworkers via e-mail, electronic logbook, or other meansAlong with the other shift supervisors of the area, ensure 24/7 coverage for vacations and illness in all required production positionsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSMinimum of 5 years of industrial supervisory experience is a must. Experience in a Union environment is preferredBasic computer skills including Microsoft Office products are requiredProblem solving and strong communication skills are requiredThe ability to work independently or in a team environment is requiredPrevious emergency crew or Incident Command experience preferred but not requiredExperience working with a union workforce and administering labor contractThis position could supervise up to 10 wage employeesPrevious experience with shift work preferred but not requiredPHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
