JOB SUMMARY Support shop departments by installing, modifying, adjusting and aligning precision machines, electronic equipment and hydraulic systems in order to maintain the most efficient operating production and supporting equipment. This is an opportunity to work 2nd shift (3pm-11pm). PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Use various skillsets to troubleshoot and repair all production equipment as needed. * Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove and replace defective parts. * Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. * Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. * Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments as needed. * Lubricates and cleans parts as needed. * Starts and tests devices for operational efficiencies. * Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. * Initiates purchase orders for parts and machines. * Make emergency repairs when necessary to offset excessive down-time and production delays. * Observe and comply with safety precautions and lockout procedures. Utilizing extreme care on troubleshooting and repairs where high voltage is involved. * Use appropriate test instruments, gear and equipment to test and ensure compatibility and safety of all circuits, in line components, switches, controls, etc., to assure performance, quality and operations. * Proceed on assignments with minimum supervision and guidance. Repair and alignment of mechanical devices. * Train and assist, on the job, the work of other department employees. * Troubleshoot and repair inoperative, intermittent operating, or malfunctioning equipment and systems. * Repair of electrical/electronic equipment. * Modify existing malfunctioning mechanical and electronic machinery, using innovating techniques to quickly get the equipment up to an acceptable operating level. * Order spare parts. * Install and relocate new or existing equipment. * Understand and manipulate equipment without assistance. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES * Mechanical aptitude and skills are essential. * Ability to read, write and process all instructions. * Ability to understand and complete assignments using the basic principles of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, and electronics. * Good math skills; metrology-the interrelationship of angular interaction (i.e. X,Y,Z, etc.) * Ability to plan logical sequences, analyze problems and implement diversified repair, modification or maintenance to correct the situation. * Ability to analyze and think under pressure regarding the manufacturing maintenance or repair requirements. * Ability to obtain a forklift license and operate aerial and scissor lifts is mandatory for this position. * Ability to weld and fabricate as needed. * Basic computer skills are essential EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Trade school or 6 years related experience in the electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting and repair * Proficient in any two of the following five fields (1) electrical/electronics (2) mechanical/machine repair (3) fabrication (sheet metal, welding), (4) hydraulics & pneumatics (5) plumbing COMPETENCIES Aligning Performance for Success Focusing and guiding others in accomplishing work objectives. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORKING CONDITIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
