About the opportunity SWCA Environmental Consultants' Pittsburgh, PA office is actively seeking to fill an Associate Project Environmental Planner position in Pittsburgh, PA. You will have a broad range of skills to work with a team supporting municipal permitting efforts (e.g., subdivision permits; land development ordinances primarily in the renewable energy). The position requires experience with major phases of municipal project development, especially initial constraints analysis, permitting, and preconstruction planning. This position requires the ability to work independently and coordinate with large project teams to support municipal planning and permitting efforts. SWCA's Pittsburgh office also works extensive with the oil/gas sector, and on major transmission projects. This position is a full-time (with benefits), salaried, exempt position working in hybrid fashion from SWCA's Pittsburgh, PA office in Bridgeville, PA. Remote-based candidates residing in Pennsylvania will be considered if highly qualified. We will consider both levels of Environmental Planners: * A. Associate Project Environmental Planner: minimum five (5) years' relevant experience and expertise. * B. Project Environmental Planner: minimum seven (7) years' relevant experience and expertise. What you will accomplish * Support our clients in the preparation of municipal permits (e.g., subdivision and land development ordinances) for the review of State Environmental Protection Agency. * Assist Project Manager or task lead in preparing key aspects of environmental planning documents, including pre-application activities, project planning, municipal permitting, and developing project descriptions with supporting documentation. * Support projects of varying size and complexity. * Support project teams primarily working on renewable energy projects, but also oil and gas and transmission projects. * Act as the regulatory/permit compliance liaison between agencies and clients. * Effectively communicate and proactively engage with diverse project stakeholders, including regulatory agents. * Cultivate new relationships and support the development of client capture plans. * Develop junior staff to support their professional growth. * Utilize strong organizational, communication, and graphical skills in written and verbal communication. * Take responsibility for team safety, developing safety plans (when applicable), and anticipating potential safety hazards. Experience and qualifications for success Minimum Qualifications: * A bachelor's degree in municipal planning or an environmental related field. * Five (5) years of experience in municipal planning. * Proven ability to address state and/or local permitting laws and processes, including drafting and/or reviewing municipal permitting such as subdivision and land development ordinances. * Proficient in MS Office products and technical writing. * Valid driver's license, good driving record and your own transportation. Preferred Qualifications: * Seven (7) years of experience in municipal planning. * Experience working in private consulting. * Experience working with the renewable energy industry, especially solar. * Experience in regulatory permitting throughout the U.S. Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. * Understanding of permitting and mitigation requirements for Clean Water Act Sections 401 and 404. An employee in this Pittsburgh, PA-based position can expect an annual salary of A. Associate Project Environmental Planner = $66,144.00 - $84,884.00 B. Project Environmental Planner = $74,963.20 - $97,011.20 Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
