POSITION SUMMARY The Facilities Maintenance Technician I/II provides preventative maintenance and repairs to facilities, grounds, and vehicles. This position works independently under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or O&M Superintendent. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor Direct Reports: None KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs construction, installation and repair of building support systems, mechanical systems and electrical systems. * Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on grounds, landscaping and irrigation systems. * Performs plumbing work including the installation and repair of copper, iron and PVC pipe. * Provides skilled assistance on complex Process Maintenance and Facilities Maintenance projects. * Operates and uses industrial equipment including: lifting/hoisting equipment, hand tools and vehicles such as landscaping and snow removal equipment The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. QUALIFICATIONS SPR Facilities Maintenance Technician I Education, License, Certification, and Work Experience: * High school diploma or GED * 1 year minimum experience performance maintenance work in a wastewater utility or comparable field * Basic knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems * Working knowledge of hand tools and powered industrial equipment * Ability to work independently * Good verbal and written communication skills SPR Facilities Maintenance Technician II Education, License, Certification, and Work Experience: * High school diploma or GED * 2 years minimum experience performing maintenance work in a wastewater utility or comparable field * Intermediate knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems * Advanced knowledge of hand tools and powered industrial equipment * Ability to work independently and lead small projects * Good verbal and written communication skills * An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Field Work - Work may be performed on construction sites where there may be exposure to dust, noise, traffic, and moving construction equipment. Work may be performed at wastewater treatment facility where noise, irritants, dust, dirt bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air materials and fumes are present. As part of this program, employees have the opportunity to advance through the following positions: * Tech I to Tech II: Requires minimum of 2 years of experience, intermediate knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. * Tech II to Mechanic: Requires minimum of 3 years of experience, advanced knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems, and EPA 608 certification. * Mechanic to Systems Specialist: Requires minimum of 5 years of experience, expert knowledge of HVAC, control, mechanical and plumbing systems, EPA 608 Certification.
