Under general supervision, the purpose of the job is to perform manual labor and equipment operations and assist in the installation, repair, maintenance and replacement of irrigation systems in parks, trails, athletic fields, park facilities, and public open spaces, including restrooms, drinking fountains, brick and cement structures, medians and walkways. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. * Performs semi-skilled landscaping, construction, maintenance and repair tasks related to park development and maintenance, especially turf care. * Assists with maintaining all phases of irrigation systems including pumps, motors, valves, hydraulics, mechanical components, electronic zone controllers, sprinkler heads and all related piping. * Performs landscape management tasks as identified but not limited to mowing, trimming, mulching, planting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, weeding, pest control and irrigation. * Assists with inspecting and addressing drainage issues. * Assists with diagnosing and fixing various plumbing and electrical problems related to irrigation systems. * Maintains and prepares athletic fields for practice and game use. * Performs routine general and preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment. * Participates in a variety of manual labor tasks appropriate to irrigation systems installation and maintenance; and performs maintenance, landscaping and construction tasks related to grounds and athletic field management. * Operates and maintains medium to heavy equipment. * Operates and maintains gas powered equipment including tiller, edger, mower, trimmer, blower and chainsaw. * Monitors systems daily and makes necessary adjustments as needed to ensure proper turf control. Assists in the preparation, operation and takedown of special events hosted by the City. * Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work. * Regular and timely attendance are required for this position. * Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies or critical incidents as determined by City Administration. * Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one year experience in irrigation systems installation and repair or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. * Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver's License. * Must possess or obtain an irrigation tech license from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality within 12 months of employment.
