"Job Title: Irrigation Systems Technician II Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt Department/School: Facility Services Function: Business Pay Grade: OS 7 Reports to: Head Grounds Technician-Services HR Date Approved: January 2014 SUMMARY: Maintains irrigation systems district-wide; designs and installs minor renovations and systems to district campuses. Lead, plan, and direct the special craftsman to make all necessary repairs to irrigation systems of campuses and athletic fields. Order necessary supplies, materials, equipment, and tools necessary to make maintenance repairs. Make recommendations of major repairs and/or replacement of needed capital improvements. Supervise repairs as assigned; assist other departments in repairs as needed. Report accidents to buildings, tools, vehicles and personnel. Make preventive maintenance repairs as needed. Make installations of new or replacement equipment. Assist in the selection of staff employees from qualified applicants. Direct the work of assigned employees; provide input for the evaluation of employees in the work unit or crew; confer with supervisor and document personnel issues under the direction of supervisor. Recommend specifications and plans for new construction. Assign approved work requests to the appropriate craftsman; provide follow-up inspections of completed work. Report any violation of laws, codes, regulations, and policies. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. Accurately report work hours using the time clock to report start and end times. Attend required meetings, educational classes, and workshops. Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful. Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives. Comply with the Employee Standards of Conduct. Perform other related duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Ability to trouble shoot and perform repairs to irrigation systems Ability to lift tools, supplies, materials, and equipment in the performance required Ability to read irrigation plans Ability to work in adverse weather conditions Basic computer knowledge Equipment Used: PC Computer, hand tools, augers, electrical test meters, wire/valve locators, skid steer loader, forklift, tractors, Line trenchers, welding soldering torch, flaring tools, water pumps, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: High school diploma or equivalent Texas Licensed Landscape Irrigator Valid Texas driver's license with a record of safe driving Experience: One (1) year successful related experience MENTAL/PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Maintain emotional control under stress Lifting of up to 60 lbs. Frequent bending, standing, and crawling and climbing ladders Work in all weather conditions Irregular, prolonged, and adjusted schedules
