Extension Professional II (Assistant in Extension, Agricultural STEM) (Phoenix, AZ) Posting Number req21158 Department Maricopa County Office Department Website Link extension.arizona.edu/Maricopa Location Greater Phoenix Area Address Phoenix, AZ USA Position Highlights The Assistant in Extension, Agricultural STEM will be responsible for assisting in the development and delivering education and outreach programs that provide research-based objective informal education for teachers, youth, K-12 students and relevant clientele in the area of agriculture STEM Education. The person will be required to help create and implement impactful programming that will lead to ensure all K-12 students know, involve and excel in rigorous, relevant, and joyful STEM learning. The incumbent will develop and support STEM educators to join, grow, and stay in the STEM education field. The successful candidate will invest in time and efforts strategically and sufficiently using federal, state, and local funds to achieve program goals and objectives. This position will be part of both the Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) and 4-H Youth Development Extension areas. This position will provide K-12 teachers, students and youth in Maricopa County with non-formal educational opportunities designed to help them develop into careers related to agriculture STEM education. The successful candidate will assist with grant writing, conducting applied research, and publishing creative and scholarly works that support the county-based program. The incumbent will also conduct outreach and contribute to the unit, college, and university service. Duties & Responsibilities * Assist in the development and delivering of education and outreach programs that provide research-based objective informal education in the area of agriculture STEM education. * Conduct, evaluate, document results and impacts of creative applied research and educational programming, utilizing new technology that may include problem solving research, to address priority needs of the target audiences. * Develop, collect, and use community needs and assessment data to create and deliver appropriate programmatic responses and actions to clientele needs. * Create and/or edit educational handouts and newsletters with data obtained from surveys sent to program participants in support of state, county, and community initiatives. * Disseminate educational materials through county-wide and/or multi-county events, workshops, websites, newsletters and other mass media methods, and other methods. * Collaborate with the University of Arizona faculty and professionals (Especially 4-H Programming), statewide working groups, external public and private institutions, agencies, and organizations locally, regionally, and nationally to develop new and creative programming efforts. Promote communication, outreach, and teamwork within these groups. * Collaborate with county and campus faculty and staff, and other experts in the development of educational programs, applied research, and scholarly works. * Partner and collaborate with industry commodity groups associated with Arizona Agricultural Institute (AAI) to lead committee planning meetings, execute AAI 1.0 and AAI 2.0 programming/activities, and manage donor lists and associated correspondence. * Work as a member of the Extension ANR and 4-H team by participating in trainings, sharing expertise, and serving on task forces and signature program teams. * Assist in identifying resources by keeping informed of possible grant opportunities, contracts, gifts, in-kind contributions, etc., to enhance programs. * Consult with the County Extension Director to evaluate program effectiveness and help create plans for success in areas needing improvement. * In collaboration with community groups, Extension advisory groups, and other Extension professionals, assist in the development an annual Plan of Work. * Create fact sheets and provide data to department social media staff twice a year for information to be included in department newsletters and department annual report. * Communicate program results to clientele through bulletins/fact sheets, popular articles, state publications, scientific articles, social media, and video and computer programs. * Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): * Ability to travel regionally and nationally. * Ability to successfully work with diverse clientele and colleagues and willing to support a variety of teaching methods. * Ability to use current computer technology and distance-bridging technologies to expand learning opportunities, including social media and effective marketing strategy to reach youth and adult audiences. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to perform activities associated with conducting programs through the use of reasonable accommodations. Environmental Demands: * Employee may have to perform work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions. * Employee may have to experience high levels of noise, vibration, hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals in a work setting. * Employee may be exposed to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. * Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. * Must be able to work evenings and weekends. * Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor Degree related to STEM education, agriculture, leadership, or other related fields. * Experience in identifying and obtaining grants, contracts and other financial resources to enhance programming. * Experience in working with diverse K-12 and youth.
