Job Description The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Parks Specialist in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department. This is a FLSA non-exempt position. This recruitment may be used to fill part-time temporary or part-time regular positions. In this role, you will help maintain public parks and recreational areas, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and welcoming for visitors. You will assist the Parks Maintenance Lead with tasks such as routine maintenance, opening and closing duties, custodial work, field preparations, providing customer service to park-goers, and completing reports. This is an outdoor position, involving hands-on work in city parks and other remote nature-based recreational settings. This is a non-benefit, part-time position. Incumbents are expected to work over 20 hours per week for at least 20 weeks in a fiscal year to maintain membership in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. The schedule will vary. Hours/shifts will be assigned based on the needs of the department. Weekdays: * 2:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Holidays & Weekends: * 5:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. * 2:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Essential Functions Provide front-line customer service to park visitors, and event and sports participants. Assist in special events, park rentals, programs, and activities, as requested. Provide general park clean-up of grounds and facilities including, but not limited to, picking up trash, stocking restrooms, dugouts, and parking lots utilizing various manually operated tools and equipment. Perform routine field and park preparation and maintenance including, but not limited to, setting up fields, lining and dragging, installing bases and setting up goals. Assist Parks Maintenance Lead with sports turf maintenance and irrigation. Perform general custodial and maintenance of park shelters, restrooms, park facilities, and buildings to ensure safe and orderly operations. Enforce park regulations, reservations, and ordinances; provide timely, and professional customer service, and promote park and trail safety. Trim shrubbery and grass around walkways, sidewalks, and buildings as assigned. Sweep walkways and sidewalks with broom or blower as assigned or scheduled. Complete and file accident and incident reports, daily reports, and report issues as required by the department. Perform on-site inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with department and City safety policies and procedures. Follow opening and closing procedures for parks, buildings, and facilities. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalency. A combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work may qualify. One year (1) of groundskeeping or customer service experience in a related field. Requires valid Arizona Driver's License. Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire. Supplemental Information Must be able to read work orders and implement repairs. Work requires the ability to read schedules, field dimension layouts, basic facility plans, and correspondence (i.e. e-mails) from the recreation office. Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages. Work requires the ability to write simple instructions and guides. Must be able to work with citizens or participants in accordance with recreation policies and procedures. Within this job, the employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. These detailed instructions normally allow little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review while work is underway and when the assignment is completed. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
